Hi, I’m Chris Nicastro. Thanks for tuning in to this 10 by 20 update.
The biggest item on our agenda right now is to ensure that 3,800 children
in the Imagine schools in St. Louis have a successful transition from their current school
to the school that their parents choose for them this coming fall.
This last month, the State Board of Education voted to close the Imagine schools
effective the end of this school year.
We've established a transition office in St. Louis to support parents in making
the appropriate choice for their children, and to make sure that the transition goes smoothly.
To that end, we've scheduled and held several school choice fairs.
More will be coming up during this month so I hope you tune-in to your local media,
to the newspaper, to the television to keep up with when those fairs will be scheduled
so that you can participate if you are an Imagine school parent.
The number of the transition office for you to call for information is 866-791-4715.
That's 866-791-4715.
If you contact that number you can get information about the choice fairs,
about the school options that are available for your children
and also about transportation if you need help getting to the school choice fairs.
We're determined that we're going to make this a successful transition
for your children, for parents and for the entire community.
I do want to point out that the School Administrators Conference is coming up in just a few short months.
The School Administrators Conference this year will be July 29-31.
It will be held in Columbia again.
That location proved to be popular with most of you and it proved to be a great central location
for most of the superintendants and school administrators who joined us last year.
Speaking to administrators during our conference will be Dr. Robert Marzano.
Dr. Marzano of course is a well-known researcher and educator.
Dr. Marzano is going to talk at our conference specifically about
the work that he's been doing on teacher and leader evaluation.
So we think you're going to find that very interesting.
Registration information is out online or will be soon,
and we encourage you to sign-up for participation and bring a team.
This year's conference we're also going to have a team discount so that we can offer an opportunity for
some of your assistant superintendents and directors and other staff members to join us.
Those sessions, many of them, will be continued throughout the school year.
So there will be opportunity for feedback and for continued work
in various areas throughout the next school year.
Finally, I want to remind you that May 8 is Teacher Appreciation Day.
This is a great time to extend your thanks to all of the teachers and educators around our state
who do such a great job for our kids each and every day.
We have one million children in the state of Missouri who are dependent on our work.
I know you take your job very seriously and we appreciate all you do.
Please convey to your staff our appreciation in the Department
for their dedication and for their commitment to the children of Missouri.
Thanks so much.
