Talk about a huge WHOOPS! Members of the night shift at the Chivas Brothers
distillery—accidently flushed 18-thousand liters of whiskey—that’s six thousand
gallons of the good stuff—right down the drain. Here’s Tampa Fox affiliate WTVT.
“...what a waste! thousands of liters of whiskey were accidentally flushed down the
drain … It happened while equipment was being cleaned at the Chivas brothers plant
...the smell was so strong ... that sewage workers reported it!”
Fortunately, the folks in Dumbarton were able to keep the whiskey from running into the
nearby River Levin. Still, the Scottish Sun banner headline screams—“Bunglers
flush away 18,000 litres of Scotch” An insider telling the Sun...
“It was like someone turned on a tap and it just ran straight down the plughole.”
…and adding “The guys responsible will be lucky to keep
their jobs.”
How DOES someone do that? Apparently, it happened while some equipment
was being cleaned.
USA Today says, worse yet, the problem wasn’t discovered until the following morning—when
downstream, local sewage crews got a whiff of something that smelled … different.
This is more than just a sad state of affairs for whiskey lovers. The BBC says it’s bad
for the city’s bowels.
“Discharging large volumes of alcohol into the sewer network can have an adverse impact
on waste water treatment processes, particularly during dry, cold weather.”
