HELLO AND WELCOME TO MEADE WEEK, I’M BRYAN SPANN. VALENTINE’S DAY IS COMING UP, FIRST
TEE GOLF COMES TO THE COURSES, NEWS FROM THE CHAPEL, ALL THESE STORIES AND MORE, BUT FIRST
PARAMEDICS AND D-E-S TRANSPORT WERE DISPATCHED TO POST HOUSING SHORTLY AFTER 7:30PM, TUESDAY
TO ASSIST IN THE IMMINENT ARRIVAL OF A NEWBORN. BUT BY THE TIME THEY ARRIVED THE BABY HAD
BEEN DELIVERED BY THE NEIGHBOR. A TRULY AMAZING STORY, LOOK FOR MORE IN THIS WEEK’S SOUNDOFF,
AND NEXT WEEK’S MEADE WEEK…. MEANWHILE, FORT MEADE’S NEWEST RESIDENT
MAY NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SPENDING TIME HOME ALONE, JUST YET. (TAKE VIDEO) AND HE
MAY NOT NEED MCAULEY CULKINS SKILLS, BUT ACCORDING TO C-Y-S’S LORIAN TARVER, THERE’S AN ARMY-WIDE
PROGRAM TO HELP 8 – 17 YEAR OLDS WITH SKILLS AND STRATEGIES NEEDED TO THRIVE WHEN THEIR
HOME ALONE….. Lorian Tarver, CYSS: “...The kids will actually
get homework to take home, during the sessions. Things that they'll be learning is where they
can locate important things in their house. Where they can locate....what do they do if
the fire alarm goes off? What if they have a water leak, who do they call? Things they're
going to be taught: how to make nutritious snacks, serving sizes...things like that.
They're also going to be taught...you know what do they do if somebody rings the doorbell.
And that's the portion the parents come in, what are the parents feeling comfortable with....as
long as the children are home, what are they going to want to do? So it's going to be based
on bringing the parents into it as well, having that mediation between kids and parents to
decide what is effective in kids being at home and how long they'll be there.”
