When I was four, my dad taught me to cycle.
From that moment on, I thought 3-wheelers are for litte toddlers.
40 years later, I'm driving a 3-wheeler again. Quite some kind of.
This is a trike. A motorbike in the front, a car on the back..
And inbetween, an idiot in his midlifecrisis.
Just kidding. I don't want a horse head in my bed.
And if you thing this has nothing to do on our channel, it does.
You can drive this with a regular drivers licence.
And that makes this a great alternative for yet another convertible.
And that goes as well for this Can Am. It has two wheels in front and one in the back.
It's build by Bombardier. They also make planes and trains.
They also build snow scooters, and that will ring a bell.
It has a Rotax V2 with 109 HP.
And it weights only 300 kg, that makes it very fast.
You might think this is a hobby project, but it is build in a factory, Rewaco in Germany.
It has a 185 HP Ford turbo engine in the rear.
And this also is very fast. It weights 500 kg.
That might seem a lot, but 185 HP is quite enough for that, especially when the turbo comes in.
That makes it tricky, because the front is very light-weighted.
All weight and power are on the rear, so if you floor it, the front goes up.
It happend to me twice and I don't want a thirth time, I'm too unexperienced.
But it is so much fun! Fighting the machinery.
The steering is miserable.
Shifting is done with a regular car lever, here on the fake tank.
The lever pokes up like a you-know-what.
You might get associations with certain toys and women wanting to sit here.
But that's up to you. I'm not like that.
The operation is car like. Clutch at my left foot, brake at my right foot.
The accellerator is at my right hand.
And that's irritating, because the steering is extremely sensitive.
But to shift gear, I'm forced to lift one hand from the steering.
Do I look stupid on such a vehicle?
I think that people who drive this are people who don't care at all.
Also: yesterday, I saw an old US Army Jeep with stars and stripes on the antenna.
And two adult men, dressed up like soldiers.
So who's the idiot here?
Well, look at this. A typical Frank Jacobs production, always crazy.
He asked me if I had time to co-host this video.
Time, yes. But I didn't really want it.
This thing scares me, I don't know what to do.
I never rode a bike either.
Still, I said yes and I must say, it is fun.
It doesn't drive like a bike, or so I'm told.
It feels like a snow scooter or a quad.
You should not lean, steering is everything.
Exactly like a snow scooter.
If you lean in a curve, you'll go straight.
So steer! With a bit accelleration.
And this engine loves high revs.
It goes in little more than four seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
The accellerator is at my right hand. It has automatic gear shift.
The gear shift is at my left hand, the brake at my foot.
It's tricky, because I'm used to cycling and then I have the brakes at my hands.
But after a while you'll get used to it.
Once the fear is gone, you get used to the very direct steering and high speed.
I drove an Audi Q3 after this, and it felt like the steering wheel had gone loose.
It is easy to drive at 170 km/h, you almost get blown off.
And then I understand the sensation of driving such a toy.
It looks great, and the accelleration: great!
Bikers will laugh about this, but I am really impressed.
Well, was it scary?
First 15 minutes? Very scary. So fast, and I didn't have the feeling.
With a car, I know exactly how it reacts.
I had to discover this machine, and that was tricky.
But once I had the feeling, I turned into a boy with his very fast toy.
Okay, I agree with you about the Can Am. But this really drives lousy.
I can not think of one good reason to drive this.
Apart from being noticed. And it is a chick magnet.
Not my age I'm afraid.
This is a nice toy, but bikers say that it doesn't drive that well at all.
I should not be allowed to drive these machines with a normal drivers license. Too dangerous.
Perhaps, but the same goes for a Caterham, a Ferrari F40. Very dangerous as well.
One should be careful.
