President-elect Park Geun-hye is brushing away concerns put forth by those in her very
own party... who say the price tag associated with her campaign pledges is just too high.
Our presidential correspondent Eoh Jin-joo reports.
President-elect Park was firm.
She made it clear that... it's too early to talk about which policy pledges will work
out and which will not.
Park's comments come a day after ruling Saenuri Party lawmakers called on the president-elect
to scrap or delay some of her more ambitious campaign pledges,... taking into account the
massive budget they will require.
Meeting with former chief managers of her campaign committee Friday,... President-elect
Park stressed that the assessment of her pledges, as to whether they are realistic, should come
AFTER the new administration takes office.
She added that she will keep her promises with the people, in order for her administration
to gain the confidence of the public.
Later in the day,... President-elect Park met with the four-member delegation she will
send to China next week,... and asked them to help her develop Korea's strategic cooperative
relationship with Beijing.
She stressed it is important that the new leadership of the two countries work closely
together to urge North Korea to make the right decisions so it can become a responsible member
of the global community.? Park especially put emphasis on the role China,
Pyongyang's closest ally, should play.
However,... she added that her administration will not tolerate Pyongyang's nuclear program,
and will firmly respond to any additional provocations.
A month has passed since President-elect Park was elected as president,... and pundits say
that Park has taken a quieter stance compared to past president-elects.
"Park rarely appears here at the transition committee's office, and usually stays at home
or at a private location preparing for key appointments and reforms. This falls in line
with her belief that the transition team should stay humble in taking over government affairs,
but many point out that the committee lacks communication with the public and the press.
