>>"My name is Garland Gant, aka Hustleman.
I started with about 40 bags of 'Fruities,' like twelve years ago. Selling them in the
area and then expanded to socks, face towels, dish towels, oils, pickles, t-shirts, dvd
players, to watches, to sheet sets, to comforters...stuff like that.
Since the Red Line came over, it just added to the business that I already had. From 3
o'clock to 6 o'clock is the busiest time of the day. We've got five bus stops coming down
this street, then you have trains coming every three, four minutes, right here, so, that
makes the whole day go fast.
A majority of my customers are CTA passengers, but then I have got my locals; The kids coming
from schools, people driving up coming from work find a parking space and then they come
up, and get their sno-cones.
The Red Line closing has been good for business, for me and for them. Because it's easier to
get to 95th St. now. You get to 95th quicker then you did when the train was up, because
they're not making multiple stops. You shoot straight to 95th, you can't beat that, and
you can get a sno-cone on your way over there.
You can stand outside and wait on the bus and buy what you need at the same time.
I guess its not for everyone, everybodys not made for that, you know? Not everybody can
just sell stuff. You have to be a good salesman, you have to be good to the people, treat everybody
the same and you should be good.
Hi, I'm Hustleman, and the Garfield Station is my CTA.">>
