Welcome to the tutorial for Annals of American History online, a database from Britannica.
Annals of American History online collects primary sources and then organizes them by decade or era,
so it’s an excellent place to go for research on topics in American History. This is the main page of the database.
There are a couple of ways to search: If you know what decade or era you want to browse in, click on the appropriate year.
If you're looking for a particular author, like Thomas Jefferson, click on the letter corresponding to their last name.
You can also browse by topic. If you want to find sources on specific topics, type that keyword into the search box.
You can browse through the results here. To read any source, click on the link provided.
Once inside the document, you can email it to yourself or you can print it out. To get the citation, go to the bottom of the page.
The database doesn't use a specific citation style, so tweak the citation to fit whatever format you are using.
