It's Springtime in Orlando, Florida and that can mean only one thing...
It's Playlist Live. Or as I like to call it... KidCon.
(music)
This is the place where people who create and watch YouTube videos can get together
so I thought I would take this opportunity and see if there was anything you wanted to know
and I could your answer your question face to face.
Fan: How does music affect your life? Like, how do you feel, like,
you connect to music because I know you have quite a selection of music.
(Tommy) You know what? That's a great question. I love music.
I think music is my first love honestly. I mean, like,
from the minute I heard it as a child I just went "wow, I love
this stuff." So, you know what, it's
it's really powerful. It makes me feel all sorts of things.
Um, like, it gets me -- you know what I mean?
Like, if I'm having a crap day. I can just hear the right song
I may have to look for a little while and hear a few
but when I hear the right one the whole day is just gone. All the bad stuff
from the day is completely gone.
That's probably my favorite thing about it. You know what I mean? How transformative it is.
(music)
(Fan) What about food? Are you more -- because a lot of food
looks terrible and then tastes wonderful.
(Tommy) You know what? And some food looks great and tastes awful.
(Fans) That's right. That's true. (Tommy) So, like, pasta. I don't eat pasta. I don't like it.
It weirds me out. Like, if you just had to touch pasta you would never
put it in your mouth. You never would. Like, if you
could only smell cheese and not look at it. You would never put it in your mouth.
Never. So, like, I don't eat cheese and pasta.
I just don't.
(Fan) What do you think space looks like?
(Tommy) You know, that's a hard concept for me to understand. Like, the concept of
like, it's infinite. Like, something
that goes on forever.
I can't even get my head around it. (Fan) I can't either and I can see. It's crazy.
(music)
(Fan) What is Playlist Live like... with all the noises?
(Tommy) You know what? It's a very busy place. It's, um,
I mean, like, listen right now you can hear people on stage
just sort of talking and the sort of the din of the rest
of the crowd and everything. So, it's pretty noisy and
have to walk through giant crowds of people and stuff, but
this is the best part. Like, getting to meet you and getting to meet all the people
and stuff. That's the most fun of this whole thing I think.
Right? (Fan) Yeah! (Tommy) Yeah. So that would be my answer.
(Fan) You interact with people based more on your hearing.
Is it easy for you to tell if someone is lying to you?
(Tommy) You know, I think that depends if I know them.
If it's a complete stranger I don't think I would know that but if it was like a friend of mine
or if we were hanging out for a little while. I think I would be able to hear it
because, you know, your voice might get a little -- there might be
a change in your voice, or you might talk too much.
People generally when they lie will give too much information. They will tell you too much story.
Right? So that's what I listen for.

(Fan) What's your favorite YouTuber... if you have a favorite YouTuber?
(Tommy) You know who makes me laugh every time? (Fan) Who?
(Tommy) Greg Benson. Holy mackerel, does he make me laugh.
Just thinking about him. He does all these nutty pranks and stuff.
And it just is hysterical. He is always
funny to me. I could be in the worst mood in the world and
I just put on a Greg Benson (snaps fingers) and I'm good to go.
What about you? Who's your favorite? Besides me.
(credits music)
(Fan) Oh, this is Liam. You want to hold, Liam? (Tommy) Let me see. What is it?
(Fan) It's a doll. (Tommy) Wow.
Oh wow. He's tall.
Wow. Now what kind of -- so what is he? What's this doll
supposed to be? (Fan) He is a member of One Direction, the band.
(Tommy) Oh, that's a guy from One D. (Fan) Yeah. (Tommy) You're kidding.
I thought he was a lot bigger.
(starts to mimic song) Hey, is this what makes him beautiful, or what?
