yo, i'm bryan blackman. I'm from TallMan Foundation and I'm here to tell you what tutting is all
about. There are a lot of people who see me walking the street doing...playing with my
hand and this. And they want to know what is this. I tell them 'This is called tutting'. Back in the days, it was called Egyptian style dancing.
If you watch Michael Jackson videos you'll see... all that he does is Egyptian style
dancing. But to us we call it tutting. Tutting came from a person named King Tut who died
at 19 years old back in Egypt. They say his wife hit him in his head and killed him but
he was famous for doing all shapes and sizes with his hands and body. This is tutting.
Basically, it's like a puzzle...think of how a puzzle will be, it's just like tutting.
There are many styles of tutting. There is the block style tutting. Each move you do,
no matter what, must come back into the same shape. Always try to remember when you are
tutting your hands must be straight. If you start and your hands are not straight...You
know beginners because they have their hands like so. When you keep your hands straight
and clean, lengthwise, you know you have it! And everytime you do tutting it must be sharp
especially when you wear white gloves. Trust me, people will notice. Especially in a crew
when you are tutting and your movements are not sharp, trust me, people will know. Every
movement have to be sharp. Tutting is something you constantly have to practice because just
doing this, this, this... could give you problems. I taught someone this, this... and she couldn't
really get it but sometimes you have to break it down for people. My personal favourite,
people like to call it the Naruto, it's like... I like to play with my fingers. It's just
something you have to love doing. You have to practice while you are home, doing something.
Always look for different shapes and sizes your hands could make so you could bring something
new to the field. Tutting is part of hip hop culture. Tutting actually came from the streets.
Back in the 80's tutting was a big thing. The first person to ever come out and hit
the streets with tutting... it was madness. Trust me, it's just something you just have
to love. This is another TallMan Foundation Project here...Bryan Blackman. Peace.
