The world and all of us in the world are producing a lot of waste
and we can see it as a problem
or we can also start to see it as an opportunity.
In 2012 we actually received the overall Innovation Challenge award
for recycling waste tyres in the process of making steel.
The benefits of doing something like this
is that you're actually transforming waste
into completely different types of products, so you're not limited
into just thinking about conventional recycling.
As a young person growing up in Mumbai,
I loved to always collect all the different types of medicine bottles.
You know, different colour ones, different shapes and sizes.
To me it was more about the fact that this was a beautiful material
and why were we throwing it away?
For young people, you know, if they are looking at working
on something creative and innovative,
you've got to create those opportunities.
These types of innovative projects
are the kinds of things that they look at,
and the fact that we've got the privilege to work
with bright young minds to get them to develop innovative solutions
is something that we really feel very privileged.
We've got that assurance that if we continue to provide
that opportunity to students, I think we're going to have students
who are going to be looking towards the future as a bright future,
ready to take on whatever challenges the world has to offer,
so I think it's an investment, a real investment in the future.
