Love them or loathe them, you can't escape the big coffee companies.
Whether you fancy a frappalattemochachoccahazlenutaccino or a... coffee, you're never more than 30
seconds from a big brand coffee giant, and none is more ubiquitous, or defensive of it's
brand, than Starbucks.
Which is why this coffee shop in LA is stirring up so much of a brew. No, brewing up so much...
It's a storm in a teacup. Yes. Good hot drink pun.
This is dumb starbucks. Like starbucks... Exactly like Starbucks... but with the word
dumb in from of every trademarked word. How are they getting away with it? Well, dumbucks
claim tht by putting the dumb word dumb in front of every dumb trademark, they're just
parodying real Starbucks. It's a joke, and therefore they can claim fair use and Starbucks
can't touch them.
For their part, Starbucks say they are watching the launch very closely, and they aren't the
only ones. The opening caused a bit of a social media storm over the weekend, although whether
that was because of their natty marketing or free coffee offer no one knows.
Either way, as a publicity stunt, you could fill a dumb venti cup with their steaming
hot chutzpah.
