"A date or a movie?" Ep. #1.
A date or a movie episode number one. I'd like to welcome you to the new series that I'd like to start, "A date or a movie?".
Even tough the title brings completely different associations, in this series I'm gonna talk with you about the movies that I've recently seen.
I'm a cinemaholic. The first movie, I'd like to talk with you about is "Only Lovers Left Alive" directed by Jim Jarmusch.
I really love it when you go to see a movie at 10.30 PM and there's only one person in the room besides you.
So I could relish the movie in such a pleasant atmosphere.
And... to be honest, I was a bit disappointed. What I liked about it was the incredible Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston, who is incredible in
every role that he plays, from Loki to a vampire as we can see him in this movie.
The poetics of the movie, the captions being so beautiful, but there's no such moment in which the plot starts going fast.
Unless we're talking about the moment when an unruly sister comes to visit. But I don't wanna reveal too much to you.
Of course I go to the giant chain cinemas and watch all of the cinema hits, but it's really nice to have an alternative as well.
You shouldn't expect of this movie to change your life, but for sure you're not gonna waste an evening watching it.
Movie #2, namely: "Divergent".
I have to admit, that I had mixed feelings when I was going to the cinema, as lately there's been a lot of productions concerning
the problem of the contemporary society. I was afraid that it would be just another plastic story with predictable characters.
And that's what I've had enough of. I've seen "The Hunger Games", which came up to my expectations, I've seen "Ender's Game", which I
really liked, and now it's time for "Divergent". The plot takes place in Chicago, on the ruins of the city, the characters do not leave a certain
area. The society is divided into 5 fractions, considering their usefulness, talents and character. There are Dauntless, namely the
members of the police and all kinds of services, Erudites- the ones responsible for inteligence and knowledge, Candors- kind of lawyers,
who take care of order in law, there are Altruists- the ones that take care of others, who are kind of nurses for the society,
and there is Abnegation- the ones who cultivate cereal and worship nature.
We get to know the 5 groups the day before the main character is to choose one of them.
Even tough she gets a test, she can make the decision herself. And she does, but this is where the fun starts, as it turns out she matches
a few groups. I think that it applies to all of us, I don't think that one person is perfect only for one type of things.
And that's what the movie is about. About this "Divergent", because that's how the people who don't match the criteria are called, who
rebels, chooses a different group than her parents are telling her to and then falls in love with the Leader of Dauntless
as each movie needs a love story. As you have a hottie on the screen and can watch his back and not only... I recommend these moments
for the ones who miss such sights. The main character and the Leader don't fall in love with each other in 5 seconds (the most annoying
tendency in movies for teenagers ever). As their feelings gradually grow, we can see the transformation the main character undergoes
along with the fall of an utopian society, because the Divergent, as it turns out is a threat to it. But why?
That's what you can find out if you watch the movie. This time it's definately a movie, not a date.
Movie #3: "Dallas Buyers Club". A bit of a heavy going for the last movie today, but I really think it's valuable.
It's a movie that everyone's talking about not only since the Oscars, but from the moment of awarding the prizes.
Among other things thanks to the brilliant Jared Leto. The story's about a man who gets diagnosed with ***. It's not the most happy
and colorful story one could ever imagine. But don't leave the cinema yet, as the plot is just about to begin. The main character, Ron Woodroof,
a a Texas cowboy who doesn't shun stimulants and who makes money participating in rodeo or betting shares and runs away with stolen
money. As I already told you, he's diagnosed with ***. At the beggining he doesn't care, he says that nothing's gonna kill him in 30 days.
It's a story about the will to live, fighting stereotypes and our own fears. Ron is a homophobe,
and throughout the story Rayon, a transvestite portrayed by Jared Leto becomes his best friend.
They become not only friends for good and for bad but also business associates in some questionable enterprise conected with importing
illegal drugs from Mexico. I really recommend this one, if you have time, don't miss it!
