Hi, Donice's here. I want to talk to you a little bit, or very briefly about one of my clients who has really taken advantage of one of all of the health programs that we offer here at Bridges.
He joined the fitness center in 2008 at Baptist where all Deaf, hard of hearing folks can go through Bridges. They can become members there for free at Baptist Wellness Center.
John Forbes is the person I want to talk to you about. He has a lot of medical problems, and prior to 2008, the doctors didn't see a whole lot of hope for him.
But he has walked over 3,000 miles since 2008. He has changed the entire prediction of his health because of his wellnes program. He is very careful about how he eats, of course he exercises. Not just walking, stretching, some muscle building exercises.
He has a condition called Usher's Syndrome Type 2. So, he is very quickly loosing his sight and his hearing. He also has what is called Fukes Corneal Dystrophy Syndrome, and that's one of the things that causes his blindness as well.
So I want to encourage you all to come and participate at Bridges and learn about healthy cooking methods, about different kinds of foods that can help you prevent cancer. So many different kinds of things you can do at Bridges.
Just to give you an idea of what's coming up. In May on May 14th we have Exercising in the Summer Heat. That's going to be really important.
June is Men's Health Month. There will be a speaker here from Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center who will be talking about ways that men can prevent getting diseases that are probably more frequent in men. But everyone is invited to that on June 11th.
And then there is a Healthy Summer Cooking Class on July the 9th. So if you think the 2nd Monday of every month there will be some kind of wellness class.
So please check our website, look at our community calendar and you're going to know what's happening here at Bridges. So have a great Easter Weekend. Bye!
