The week-long standoff that began with a bus driver killed and a five-year-old boy kidnapped
has ended with the suspect dead and the boy released.
Sources report onlookers were initially unsure of the status of the situation when they heard
loud gunshots then saw an ambulance leaving the scene.

Law enforcement in Midland, Alabama later told reporters during a press conference negotiations
with suspected kidnapper Jimmy Lee *** went sour. The 65-year-old *** was then seen
holding a gun and law enforcement decided to move in.

FBI agents fearing the child’s was in imminent danger, entered the bunker and rescued the

CNN reports the boy, simply known as “Ethan,” was taken to a nearby hospital in Dothan.
Although there are very few details as to how the situation came to an end, CBS News
tweeted: “Alabama hostage rescue was carried out by FBI's Hostage Rescue Team; a camera
was inserted into the bunker during negotiation.”
The hostage situation began last week when *** boarded a bus and demanded the bus driver
hand over two children. When the driver refused, *** shot and killed him, then took Ethan
to an underground bunker.
In recent days, the FBI said they had opened lines of communication with ***. They also
said in a statement that the five-year-old boy, who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome
and ADD, requested Cheez-Its and a red Hot Wheels car.

The bus driver, 66-year-old Charles Poland, was buried on Sunday.
