This X-ray appears to show a foetus with a bullet lodged in its skull. One of the youngest
victims of Syria's raging civil war.
The image was taken when an injured pregnant woman was brought to a hospital in Aleppo,
close to death, where she was operated on. The foetus was delivered unborn and sadly
the mother died the day after.
The charity Syria Relief provided the image to highlight a British doctor's concerns over
attacks on pregnant woman. Dr David Nott says snipers belonging to President Assad's regime
have been practising by firing at women's stomachs. On one day he says he saw six injured
pregnant women brought in - two of them lost their babies.
Two and a half years ago Syria's civil war began as a peaceful protest movement. It has
now sunk into a brutal conflict in the uprising against four decades of rule by Assad's family.
More than 100,000 people of all ages have died since the fighting began. International
efforts to stop the bloodshed have stuttered. However there are some hopes that a deal to
rid Syria of chemical weapons will prove fruitful, as well as peace talks scheduled for late
November in Geneva.
