Welcome to Cengage Learning’s SAM 2013 Online Tutorial Training Series – Projects. An
installment of the Digital Course Support Services self-training video series for Instructors.
This training video walks you through SAM Projects, Features and Scheduling.
SAM Projects offers students the opportunity to complete live, in the application Projects
in Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint. This gives students real world experience in the
use of these applications. SAM Projects provide a downloadable Instructions File and Starter
File. The Instructions file is very detailed and provides students with all the information
they need to successfully complete the project. The starter files are generated specifically
for the individual user and are marked for security with the student’s name and a generated
identification number just for the student. To schedule a SAM Project, select the “Projects”
navigational button on the left of the screen. You may scroll through a listing of all projects,
or narrow down your search based on the subject, series, textbook and chapter. Once you have
chosen the project that you want to schedule, select the “Schedule” button at the top
left of the screen. In “SAM Assignment – New” page, there are two tabs of information for
you to enter. In the “Properties” tab, give the project a descriptive name, select
the textbook that students may reference for remediation and choose the section or sections
for which you are scheduling the project. In the “Project Options” tab, you can
type additional instructions for students, set the number of attempts and set the pass
fail threshold. Here, you can also set the dates and times for the project to be available
to students. You can also specify when reports for the projects will be available to students.
You can set a password for the project whether you choose dates and times or unlimited availability.
Here, a specific date and time frame is set along with the password. You can adjust the
weight of each step in the project, as well as the maximum score. Once you finish scheduling
the project, it will be listed in the “SAM Assignments” page for the sections for which
it was scheduled. This “My SAM Assignments” page is the
location where students will upload their completed SAM Project files.
Thank you for taking the time to review this self training video. Additional support information
