Today, Education Minister Anne Tolley released plans
for a training scheme for students.
The initiative starts next year, giving doctors and nurses
an incentive to work in the country instead of travelling overseas.
The Government is providing $4.5 million over three years
to develop and deliver training programmes for students.
The training programmes will be delivered
by Auckland and Otago University's.
This programme will be based in Whakatane and Gisborne.
It's an initiative aimed at those living in rural areas
enticing them to stay in rural communities once they are qualified.
This is a great initiative for students at Edgecumbe College.
These positions will be made available before the New Year.
