Hi everyone! Today i want to show you a kit, the Dassault Rafale M from Revell in 1/48 scale.
This kit from Revell is actually a reissue, they just added these new pylons and bombs.
Alright, let´s have a look inside the box.
The instructions are typical Revell, first we have some background information about the real aircraft and technical data.
Notes of safety, legend of symbols, a paint chart (refering to Revell paints only),
and a diagram with all included sprues. parts highlighted in grey are not used.
Then we start with the assembly, the seat consists of several parts.
Overall the cockpit seems to be quite detailed
There is an option of an opened canopy.
Looks alright, just as we expect it from Revell.
Those tiny wings can be built moveable.
Everything is clearly arranged, even when we have to deal with a lot of parts in the same stage.
Looks good, i´m sure it is easy enough for beginners.
The wheels are flattened already, thats fine. I´m sure most professional aircraft model builders would replace them, though.
The landing gear has some nice details on it. Looks good.
Here we have again the option of the opened cockpit.
There we have all the external load, i´m not familiar with all those things at all,
i have no idea what Mica EM or Mica IR could mean, but i will find out and use these because a jet with plenty of loadings on it looks cool.
Then we have the painting and decaling guide.
This diagram shows the decals that are common for all three versions, all those notes of safety for example.
Here the first version used over Libya, stationed on the Charle de Gaulle.
All those versions are almost all the same, there are barely any differences with regard to painting and markings.
A bit boring but maybe we can get some aftermarked decals to depict some more interesting aircrafts?
Here we have the decal sheet, there are plenty of them, especially all those tiny notes of safety.
They are all greyish, modern aircrafts don´t have colourful noseart anymore due to camouflage reasons.
The decals are nicely printed, looks very good to me.
The only thing i don´t like is the big transfer film around the decals, but if we use a gloss varnish and Micro Sol it shouldn´t be a problem at all.
Let´s have a closer look on the parts, here we have the upper part of the fuselage.
The panel lines are nicely reproduced aswell as the rivets, looks very good.
The wheel well, not that great but we can´t really see it later anyway.
The seat belts are molded on the seat.
This thing protects this small spike, i like that.
Looks very good, the parts are nicely casted, no flash in sight, no sinkmarks.
The wheels look nice, but it is a shame that they consist of two parts. It does not look really good at the end, but i think it is easy to deal with that.
The pylons for the external loading have nice details aswell.
Beautiful.
Here we have the wings, they have great rivet details aswell.
Looks very good to me, i´m not an expert when it comes to building an aircraft model, especially modern jets,
but i think this is a very good kit.
The tail fin is very filigree.
The jet nozzles look awesome, i think there is no reason to improve their look with photo-etched parts. Those plastic parts look good enough.
Overall the molding of this kit is excellent, no flash at all.
I think this really pays off because we won´t have much extra work with this kit.
Here the sprue with all those external loading, don´t ask me what these are called, i´m not familiar with this.
Just as the whole kit they are excellent.
Here we have the clear parts, they are nicely molded, but there is one thing i don´t like: The canopy.
It is very thick, it will be visible when you show the cockpit in opened position. I´d use an alternative part in this case.
I will build the cockpit in closed position anyway because the aircraft looks much more elegant.
Due to the thickness of the canopy you can see streaks in the glass.
This is the only bad thing i can say about this kit.
In my opinion this kit is first class apart from the thick canopy which is not great.
The kit has excellent details, all those external loadings are great and the decals are alright.
The kit cost about 20€, thats not expensive at all for such a kit.
You get a nice kit for your money.
I hope you enjoyed this kit review. Next time i will show you the "German civilians" from MiniArt.
I wish you happy modelling, see you in the next video, your Hamilkar Barkas.
