>> Hello,
and welcome to On The Green with Alan.
The return of our students
at both the university
and the Clerc Center,
following the winter break has brought our campus back to life
and reminds us of why we exist:
Our students.
There's a renewed sense of hope for the future.
Renewed energy and enthusiasm,
and renewed optimism
in confronting the many challenges that await us.
I would like to emphasize the key points I presented
during my recent State of the University address.
2014 began with significant changes
because 66 faculty and staff
retired through the Voluntary Retirement Incentive Program,
VRIP.
The VRIP allowed us to realign our resources
to better meet the needs of students moving ahead.
Fortunately, in the New Year, our federal funding returned
to its pre-sequestration levels.
And we were able to give eligible faculty, teachers,
and staff a pay increase.
This year, we need to prepare for the development
of the next Gallaudet Strategic Plan.
I will assemble an internal team to lead the development,
implementation, and oversight for this work in collaboration
with governance groups and the Cabinet.
The Board of Trustees has given me four
critical focus areas this year.
First, Leadership.
We must replace key leadership positions
and explore new ways
to provide the opportunity
for leadership growth.
Second, Enrollment.
Enrollment remains a top priority of the university.
Third, Fundraising.
We will continue to meet the mandate
by the Board to increase fundraising
by 10% this fiscal year.
Fourth, Climate.
Climate impacts everything -
enrollment, fundraising, and overall collaboration.
I will work with the university leadership
and campus community governance groups
to establish a plan to improve our climate
by emphasizing standards of conduct
that allow us to be self-critical
in a safe and supportive environment.
We can all agree that our ultimate goal is the success
of our students.
No one person has all the answers and all the solutions.
We must work together in a positive way
that moves us forward.

Congratulations to the Bison men's swimming and diving team
for winning their third North Eastern Athletic Conference
(NEAC) championship!
The women's swimming and diving team finished third place
overall in the tournament and broke three school records.
As we look toward spring,
I hope you all feel the same sense of anticipation
and optimism
as we continue to celebrate our 150th anniversary.
On March 6, we will host the final presenter
in our Sesquicentennial Lecture Series.
Ritchie Bryant will share the story of Dr. Nathie Marbury,
a renowned teacher, storyteller, and ASL advocate.

about upcoming 150th anniversary events,

Thank you for watching On The Green with Alan!
