A Maori housing in NZ conference was due to be held in Porirua today
but has been postponed
due to the severe weather conditions that hit the region overnight.
Roihana Nuri has this story.
Building a plan to improve social housing outcomes
for Maori was on the cards today.
Howard Metekingi postponed the conference today,
but is keen to ensure both the Maori community
and the Government agencies are united on this kaupapa.
Howard says there are two main problems,
upgrading old houses now
and building new safe houses for the future.
Yesterday Mana Party leader Hone Harawira unveiled its policy
of building 10,000 houses a year
and offering the loans to Maori first home buyers.
The conference in Porirua will now be held in July 1.
