This tutorial will show you how to get the best out of your electronic reading list.
At any point you can pause, rewind or fast forward using the buttons at the bottom of
your screen. If there is an electronic reading list for
your module, you will find a link to it in Blackboard. To open it, click on the Reading
List button and then the link to the reading list.
Your electronic reading list will list the books articles chapters and websites your
tutor wants you to access. If you click on the title of a book you will see details of
the book, library holdings and due dates of those items out on loan. You can opt to view
this information on the catalogue itself or you can search the catalogue for other editions
or formats of the book – an eBook for example. You can go back to your list here.
Click on an article title to get details of the article and links to the full text.
Links to websites and to digitised chapters may also be available though your electronic
reading list. You can export your list to RefWorks, Excel
or as a PDF. You can view the list as a bibliography in a particular citation style, Harvard for
example. A reading lists is by default arranged in the order your tutor made it, but you can
change this. You can group by type so all the articles are grouped together, then all
the books then all the chapters and so on. Or you can group by importance so that you
see all the essential readings together, then all the background readings.
You can search for a particular title or author here, and clear your search using the ‘Remove
filters’ button. If you sign in you can assign a read status to the books. You have
a choice of Will read, Reading now, Have read or Won’t read. Once signed in you can also
make notes about a particular document. and close the notes box to save.
When you click on your name at the top of the screen you will be able to see your read
statuses and access your notes. Instructions on how to sign in to your list
can be found in the ‘Alternative login’ tutorial. If you need further help contact
us in the library.
