cancer has made
incredible strides over
the past few years with
many new tests,
treatments and
medications.
That fight still takes a
toll physically, mentally
and emotionally on
patients. But as KITV 4's
Paul Drewes found out --
for some people, cancer
can STRENGTHEN their
spirituality.
beauty shots In beautiful
Waimanalo, where the
water is colorful and the
beaches inviting, I met
up with Geraldine Galves
to talk about something
very ugly - cancer. 15:20
"I hate it with a
passion, I really do."
That's because she began
her own personal battle
with breast cancer in
2010. 3:30 "I expected to
keep my breast, but I
didn't -- I lost it. But
it was such a small loss
to what I could have
lost" hospital file Her
fight -- like it is with
others was filled with
medicines, chemotherapy
and surgery. There were
low points - both
mentally and physically
and even thoughts of her
own death. But before she
even started to remove
the cancer filling up her
body, Geraldine made sure
she was filled with the
Holy Spirit. 4:45 "I
waited. I waited one year
on God. And when I heard
his voice telling me to
have the surgery, that's
when I did it."
Geraldine's unwavering
faith helped her through
this difficult time. The
cancer was removed, she
went through the chemo
and treatment and has
been in remission for the
past 3 years. nat of

Lord, oh my soul and all
that is within me"
Geraldine's battle
against breast cancer --
happened just a year
after her sister died of
the disease. So she knew
what to expect, but was
still surprised how her
diagnosis affected family
and friends. 11:00
Friends didn't know how
to approach me, to ask me
how I'm doing. We don't
need sympathy - you want
to know something ask us
straight up. nat of two
women talking Geraldine
now shares the story of
her cancer fight and her
faith -- in the hopes it
will help others. 33:11
"she's prayed with me,
she's encouraged me,
she's uplifted me" 29:10
"amen. Amen, thank you
auntie" Kalei Mccoy, was
just 35 when she found
out cancer in her breast
was spreading. 30:57 "my
first thought was i was
going to die, I have my
husband and my three
children and my brother"
Like Geraldine, she
turned to doctors and
medicine as well as the
power of prayer to heal
her body and is also in
remission. For those now
facing the fight of their
life, they offer this
advice to help stay
strong. 8:14 "Have a
faith, have something to
believe in. If you have a
god -- grab onto your
god" In Waimanalo, Paul
Drewes KITV 4 news.
Geraldine was so sure of
her faith, that she
insisted those around her
to support her AND her
beliefs.
With all that she was
dealing with, Geraldine
said she could not deal
with disagreements over
differing religion or
faith. Family and friends
