Mercy Relief is a Singaporean born and bred humanitarian charitable organization. We are
launched in 2003 in response to tragedies that happened in Asia. We aim to promote a
civic life of compassion, care and volunteerism. Our aid program includes disaster relief response
where we have done in 23 countries and areas in Asia.
Before using SAP, we were using standalone systems, which were operated by staff at individual
work stations. The processes were not really streamlined and real time, so that poses a
challenge for us to track financials and updates of our processes.
A SAP solution was actually offered to us by SAP as part of their corporate social responsibility
by donating this SAP Business One to Mercy Relief. We are so thankful for this, and the
implementation of the system was supported by Blue Ocean, where they oversee and supervise
this operation especially in the initial stages. With the SAP Business One, these processes
are shared by more than one staff, it is able to be updated on a real time basis and more
streamlined, enabling a more effective and efficient reporting system. With a SAP system,
it has surely met these needs and requirements to improve our operations.
This system allows a centralized financial reporting system. We need this because we
have to record transactions of donations from the public and where in our overseas projects,
this allows our project managers to better keep track and update their expenses on the
projects and able to management to make significant quick decision. It also enables Mercy Relief
and also other responding agencies to avoid duplication of efforts and at the same time,
minimize any wastage of already limited resources. Mercy Relief has good people in terms of staff
and volunteers who are bounded together in this humanitarian cause to serve people who
are disaster stricken and poverty stricken communities. As such, with these resources,
we need systems that enable us to improve our operations in the region.
I would recommend Blue Ocean Systems to other companies for the simple fact; the degree
of professionalism that they have shown during the course of the work with us. They provide
staff and people who are experts and able to give us sound advice during the implementation
and also during the support that we require from time to time. They have never failed
us, and we are very grateful that they are with us during the implementation of the system.
We came to hear about Mercy Relief through SAP as part of their CSR, or corporate social
responsibility program. They identified Mercy Relief as an organization worth of additional
support so that they can help people in the Asian region overcome disaster situations.
SAP built a team of service providers and Blue Ocean Systems was one of them. One of
the issues that Mercy Relief raised to us at the start of our discussions was the utter
frustration of reconciling data between their disparate IT systems. When Mercy Relief came
to us, they expressed a number of their business pain points, or their frustrations, and key
to this was an organic use of these different IT solutions to support their different operations
and it reached a point where it was no longer possible to generate reports timely and with
a certain level of accuracy because of a high level of reconciliation needed between these
separate systems. Blue Ocean Systems assisted Mercy Relief deliver an IFRS compliant ERP
system to support their operations. What we did was during our discussion, we
explained some best business practices and we showed Mercy Relief how a fully integrated
ERP system could support their operations. With the SAP Business One System that Blue
Ocean Systems delivered, we were able to eliminate the disparate systems, and also eliminate
duplicate data entry. Mercy Relief was able to generate reports more reliably and timely
and these reports supported their disaster relief operations. The net effect of this
is their disaster operations could be managed more effectively and efficiently. Blue Ocean
Systems is committed to delivering high quality implementations on a timely basis to our customers.
We are participating in SAP’s Active Quality Management program or AQM for short. With
the AQM program we bring the quality culture to the business development and solution delivery
teams at Blue Ocean Systems. Quality is behind everything that we do at Blue Ocean Systems.
Delivering high quality projects sustains our relationship with our customers and it
gives us a tremendous amount of professional satisfaction when we can deliver projects
timely, within budget, and with the stated objectives. Quality is embedded right from
the start of our engagements with our customers and that translates right through from initial
meetings, through to our proposals, through to project implementation and support.
In a small way, we, at Blue Ocean Systems are happy that we can help support Mercy Relief
in their attempts to alleviate human suffering in this region during disaster relief.
