Hi, my name is Renee French and I'm here at Practical Massage Therapy in Nashville, Tennessee,
and I'm going to be talking about massage therapy. Deep tissue massage can be one of
the techniques combined to address the deeper tissues of the muscles. This type of work
uses slower, deeper pressure in concentrated areas. The session can include neuromuscular
work, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, as well as some deeper Swedish work. My suggestion
with deep tissue massage is to pay attention to the breath. If you feel that you're holding
your breath, or as a therapist you notice that your client is not breathing comfortably
and smoothly, then maybe back off and not work quite as deeply into the muscles. Your
massage therapist may use their hands, forearms, and elbows to accomplish the deeper tissue
massage.
