Hey everybody PGA professional Jay LeDuc here and this is episode seven of the PGAjay Show.
It is also the last episode featuring the March 2017 edition of the PGA Magazine.
Got a lot of stickies to get to over here. So,You will not waste too much time and get straight into it.
I love the entrepreneurial business development stories.
and Maulana DotchHas a great one in here where she reaches out to local women's organizations.
And design specific instructional programs for them.
it's a great idea to be proactive and get involved in the community.
And grow your business and of course help grow the game of golf.
Good job by you.
Great story here also.
The Sigma pi phi Junior League event.
Talking about bringing kids from all socioeconomic backgrounds
who could benefit through the introduction to the game through PGA JR League
It is a great article in there,
About using PGA Junior League as an on-ramp to the game for a lot of kids who would not get into the game otherwise.
Great story to read there.
It continues on with Junior League with Chuck Higgins who is the regional player development Manager for the PGA.
Talking about another perspective on the PGA Junior League and the idea of it being more of a team sport
Helping to get more kids into the game as beginners.
Rather than having to go play in regional tournaments or local tournaments.
Where a kid still has to be able to play his own ball in those kind of events.
So being able to be in the Junior League on a team and have the support of the better players and I felt important to making sure that the better players play also.
But, it is also a great way to get beginner kids into the game.
And I would of course have to feature the PGA Sections, Assistant professionals of the year profiles.
This is a really good thing and I love that they're doing this in the magazine.
It gives assistance out there somebody or multiple people to look up to.
And ask them a couple questions. I have to give credit to Vinny Ackerman from my local Tennessee section.
Some credit there. And then Tom Johnson 2016 Nebraska Section PGA Assistant of the Year.
They are both featured in there.
Some great few questions their *** there. Great way to get some perspective on what great assistants are doing in the game.
And something to strive for.
This is a big section here on trends At the PGA merchandise show.
I talked a little bit about this this issue in earlier episodes.
This issue has a lot of merchandising stuff in it.
And what I want to talk about with that is that there is a lot of, - there's like 15 pages - and I am really into apparel but I did not read through this whole thing.
Even though apparel was kind of my thing.
Point that I want to make about that,It does not have to be that you know everything that is going on.
But if you were just to read through here and kinda look at some of the brands and see what they are doing
And look at some of the apparel. You will know pretty quickly what may or may not work in your shop.
Any maybe you have all of your buying $'s tied up and there is only a little bit.
I would always recommend what I tried to do was to try to bring in a new brand every year.
Maybe if we had a really solid perfoming brand like FootJoy or Adidas, I wouldn't want to take away from that.
But where am I did three lines in the spring/ early summer for FootJoy, maybe I do one or two lines with a new product line.
Just to test it our and see how it goes and if it gets some traction and poeple like it you can always order more for the Fall.
And continue that going and start to build up that business and hopfully it gives you a Different story to tell you keeps things fresh.
But also you are not getting overwhelmed with, what are the five brands we are going to cary this year?
Stick with your core brands that do wel.
But then always kinda add one in and see if it does well.
And if it doesn't go to a new one. If it does well then you know obviously get more of it.
And then do that every year, and reassess what your top 3 were performing last year and then leave spots 4 and five to rotate in some new brands.
