Dear everyone
Unfortunately I cannot be with you today, to celebrate my Mum and Dad
Instead I have created this little video, with the help of the miracles of technology
First off, I want to say MEGA thanks
to my Sister, for taking the big load in baby brother's absense
Thank you Jytte!
OK. Let me take you back to the year 1963. It was an eventful year
Beatles release their first album. Please, please me
Valentina Tereskova is send up in Vostok 5 to become the first woman in space
Grethe og Jørgen Ingman win the Eurovision Song Contest in London
with the song "Dansevise"
Jens Egon Hansen and Birgit Ingelise Jacobsen enter into matrimony
Here, 50 years later, it's only one of these world events we're gathered to celebrate
Mum and Dad
I do know, that I'm only a hapless novice
when it comes to the joy of marriage
but even I - 5 years in - have learned that not everything about your chosen one is equally wonderful
The fact that you've stayed together - for no less than 50 years -
Bears witness of true love.. Or maybe a superhuman patience
I'm leaning towards the first explanation
One of the signs that indicate this - which Deb especially has noticed -
is that you still hold hands like young lovers
So Mum...
That bug eyed fella, that wouldn't let you be at Kildebrønde Inn
has turned out not so bad... in the long run
That was, of course, after a lot of adjusting and polishing
And Dad, I have to say, when you finally get hold of what you're after
well, you don't let go and never give up. Well done, old man!
Now I would like to say a few words about my Mum
Mum have always lived by the conviction that her children
certainly had to have a more loving and secure childhood than she had
One has to say, that she succeeded to a high degree
In my case maybe a little too well, as her little Jenser sometimes
got out of the calamities he got mixed up in, a little too easy
Which wasn't too few, mind you
Nontheless I have been told that I'm a loving person
and that I have especially my Mum to thank for. I'm so much like her
And now a bit about my Dad
Dad can shout loudly and was often used as the boogyman
"Just you wait till Dad comes home"
but dad had his own way to contribute to our upbringing
Picture this: 10 year old Jens is knocking about in the livingroom
playing air guitar on a tennis racket, with incredible zeal
Dad's expensive "hands off" stereo is going for full blast
Suddenly all becomes quiet in the livingroom
After about 2 seconds you can hear 10 year old Jens exclaim loudly:
"Oh Hell! The *** burned out!"
Dad had come home early and had quietly
reached a hand in and shut off the switch by the door
That was a good lesson, I have to say - I can still remember it
Dad and I have not always seen eye to eye
I must say though, that it's incredible how much wiser he became as I got older
Mum and Dad...
Deb and I still hope that you'll choose to move to Malta
but if that cannot be; you're - of course - always welcome
to come down on a inexpensive holiday. The longer, the better
Let us all raise our glasses and celebrate my Mum and Dad
May they live long...
Hurrah
Hurrah
Hurraaaaah
Cheers everyone!
I hope you'll have a good party and celebrate my mom and dad properly
Bye bye everyone
