Did you just graduate or do you know someone who just graduated?
Well in this video I'm gonna share with you five tips I wish someone told me when I was 22
Hi, I'm Adriana Girdler and I'm president of CornerStone Dynamics and I'm a Productivity expert
The older you get, the wiser you become. I only wish I knew way back when, the things I know now
well
my eldest son just graduated from high school and I shared with him some words of wisdom that I wish I would have received way
back when that would have made my life easier, and I would like to share some of those with you.
Be money wise
First point of advice when it comes to money is always save and I mean always.
Save ten percent of your paycheck and put it towards some sort of retirement savings plan. When you're young
I know you're not thinking about retirement
But I promise you when you're older you will be and if you start saving now at 22,
guess what? You're compounding interest will be huge and you'll have so much socked away,
you'll be so glad you did it.
Number two with money wise, I really want you to take into account, is do not carry any credit card
debt, pay everything off monthly. Interest will kill you and last but not least,
live within your means, whatever that may be.
Don't worry about keeping up with the Joneses, worry about yourself and have fun but live within your means.
Be nice, the world is a really small place
Now when you're younger, you're probably scratching your head going, what? The world is huge
but you'll be amazed as the older you get you realize how tiny the world is and how
it's really important to be nice to people
You don't want to burn any bridges
because one day you may need that particular person that you've burned a bridge with way back when so be nice
Don't bring bridges and remember it's a small world, you will come across that person again
Have clear goals and beliefs
Figure out what you want out of life. Take the time and create your own personal
vision statement and then create goals to support that vision
Live it everyday,
look at it and make decisions based on it
That is a huge time-saver and will ensure that everything you do is leading towards what you want out of life
Please take that time, it is the greatest gift you'll give to yourself, and number two stand up for what you believe in
Ethics and values
matter.
Deal with stress. You're probably realizing now that you're getting older and you've just graduated
that you probably have more stress in your life than you did before and
not to burst your bubble
but it does increase as you get older because there's things like mortgages and families and kids and you know,
you may get a job with extra responsibilities
but it is also has its
rewards, but the key is to know how to deal with all that stress that comes to you. Don't turn to substances,
don't run away from it, deal with it and the greatest tool that you can do is meditate and use mindful techniques,
there is so much science behind it. Check out some of the links
I have under the Show Me section below and as well
I have a download on mindful techniques that you can also take away with. It is a
beautiful thing that you can do for yourself, a gift that you will give yourself and it'll keep on paying it
back to you in spades
Be able to let things go
Stuff is just stuff and whether that's material stuff,
emotional stuff, it's just stuff. Let it go. Don't live in the past, don't try to keep up with the Joneses,
I'm not saying don't have things or don't achieve
stuff that really provides you pleasure and excitement
but be able to walk away from it too because who knows? You may have to one day and it's just stuff
Don't get caught up in the rat race in the game, so be able to let it go, walk away when needed
Do you agree with my words of wisdom?
