Hey, this is Chad Ferguson,
LearnToCatchCatfish.com
and this week's catfishing quick tip is about how
to snell a hook.
Since I started learning to catch catfish,
I've avoided any kind of knot tying instructions,
because I feel like there's a lot of information out there,
but I get emails almost every day,
messages on Facebook.
People say, "Hey, Chad, what's the best or easiest way
"to snell a hook?"
I'm going to cut away here.
I'm going to walk you through the process
of how to snell a hook and then I"m going to come back
and I'm going to cover a little bit more information
on some of the advantages of snelling a hook.
All I have here is a deep catfish double action
circle hook and a piece of 36 inch leader line.
The first thing I'm going to do is just go right here
on the end of the line and I'm just going to tie
a real quick overhand knot, right here on the very end
of the line.
What I'm going to do is I'm going to take this
and I'm going to insert this through the eye of the hook.
You can obviously ties that knot after you've inserted
the line through the hook.
I just like to do it before I insert that line
through the hook, because it makes it a lot easier
for me to hold on to this.
You need to remember that you always want
to go through the front of the hook to the back
of the hook whenever you do this starting out.
Never go from the back to the front.
You're going to insert your leader line
with an overhand knot tied in the end of it
through the line here and then we're going to take
this piece of leader line and we're going to go over
and around.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight times
and then we're going to take this piece of leader line
and we're going to go the opposite direction
through the eye of the hook.
We're going to go from the back to the front
and pull this through and then we're just going
to take this and pull it up snug, just like that.
That's a quick and easy way to snell a circle hook
for fishing for catfish.
That's a quick and easy way to snell a circle hook.
Very effective, very easy to do, and super strong,
so you don't have to worry about the hooks coming off.
You can catch those big catfish.
