Good morning.
Fit Made Fun Day Why is
it important for parents
to get up
and active with their
kids? Media attention
on childhood obesity and
its link to physical
activity has increased
dramatically over the
last few years. o This
subject has been one of
Michelle Obama's most
notable public service
campaigns with Let's
Move! o Most importantly,
it has become a major
concern for parents.
Exercise is a Top-10
Health Concern for
parents. According to a
recent survey conducted
by University of Michigan
, adults rate 'not enough
exercise' at the top of
the list of big health
problems for children in
their communities. With
the increased awareness,
parents are also
recognizing the positive
benefits of being
physically active
. o Kids are more focused
o Stronger long-term
memory o And better
academic performance What
are some ideas to get
kids moving? We've
tried to make it easy by
distilling it down to
"Four Fit Made Fun" Tips
that help make getting up
and active the most fun
part of the day! 1. Make
it simple. You don't need
to overcomplicate your
fitness regime; it could
be as easy as kicking
around a soccer ball or
doing jumping jacks. 2.
Do it daily. Building a
habit can take more than
two months, so to add
more activity into your
day, build it into your
existing routine. 3.
Invite friends and family
along. It's always more
fun to have your friends
and family join you in an
activity - whether it's
taking a walk around the
block or riding a bike.
4. Celebrate successes.
Track and celebrate
achievements with special
active awards - like for
the best crab walk or
duck waddle. How can
parents ensure their
children are getting
enough physical activity
each day? Inspired by
the Partnership for a
Healthier America and the
Let's Move! initiative,
LeapFrog's LeapBand
is the new activity
wearable designed just
for children. It combines
the hottest trend of
fitness bands with
engaging virtual pet game
play to get kids up and
active in a fun new way.
Kids can power their
virtual pet with active
play as LeapBand tracks
their physical movements
with high-tech features
including a built- in
accelerometer, a
high-resolution color
screen, a rechargeable
battery and
water-resistant design.
