What is the dip tube on my hot water tank? Dave Walton, director home ideas, Direct Energy
The dip tube is a plastic tube connected to the inlet – cold water - of your water heater.
As water is used, the dip tube draws cold water to the sensor on the gas valve.
When the gas valve senses cold water it opens and starts to heat the water in the tank up
to the set temperature.
Plumbing codes vary, but on average your hot water should be between a hundred and ten
to a hundred and twenty degrees farenheit.
The only accurate way to measure water temperature is to use a water thermometer at the faucet.
An operational sequence is triggered when hot water is being taken from the tank. Once
the tap is turned off, the tank adds and heats cold water to replace the water removed. Once
the water reaches the set temperature, the heating process is finished.
