We are at the highest point, 28 metres, which we are going to gradually dismantle.
You can see that the scaffolding is being taken down here.
This means that we are approaching the end of 12 years of restoration.
It is a great sight to see these statues, which had been removed...
and are back standing tall in the tympana.
It is very special to be here on the last day that it is possible.
St Jan cathedral in Den Bosch has been hidden by scaffolding for 12 years.
All the statues, ornaments, arches and tympana have been cleaned or replaced, so that they'll last another 50 years.
St Jan is best known for these statues high above the city.
These ones have been cleaned and these ones haven't. But they are still in good condition.
You can see the different types made by sculptors back then and put on the building.
See the top statue, a kind of monster...
conjures up associations with the art of Jeroen Bosch, extraordinarily interesting.
It is not the first time that the church has been renovated so extensively.
There were only 12 years between this restoration and the last.
Back then they did not find the real problem, which is the rusty anchors.
Those anchors were rusting away in the large ornaments...
but were not found between 1965 and 1985.
It was only in 1998, during the master plan, that we discovered the damage they caused.
We decided to restore rigorously, so that it would last for 50 years.
The last statues are waiting to be put back, so that the public can see them from below.
Although not all of the church's secrets are revealed.
Look there is flying buttress with another crossing it.
What is really special is that these statues will never be seen from below.
