I love this comment that recently was posted on one of our videos by Paul from New York
“I envy you your independence and freedom”
Because they had me thinking about those two words independence and freedom and
what it means today.
Independence has been immortalize especially in North America by the big open roads
you can travel. You can go – there cars a mustang in the sixties
That just spoke about independence. you know your out their.
You’re traveling – it’s freedom, it's youth
all the different things in his movies about like easy rider vanishing point
all to do with the great empty wrote two spaces exploring
because we were independent
i mean other things hell's angels in the old days ago before
the reputation of change but it was a ball being independent it was soldiers
have come back from war
by a motorcycle and ghetto improves cassie the world
today there are all good people to buy more cycles harleys or whatever
and go on these big tours because they want to relive apart of
third independent youth or maybe even a youth that was lost on
consumerism because that to me is what has changed our world
we have lost her independence we have lost our freedom
because we have become consumers
in the last twenty thirty years in efforts but start maybe with the yuppies
but an effort has been
made about making us and to consumers
more i could never be satisfied with what they resist always anew
product around them
couric new and improved it doesn't matter if it's your by phone by pat
whatever i mean uh...
it's always something better in new coming up
shin denial often have tv on while we were working in the background just
because i get a lot of ideas from it
and they got these house hunter shoals
me take a look at 'em in a couple will go to this perfect how something
preferred by any other standard there wandering through it
they're just amazed at everything is perfect and they show up at the kitchen
and it's a screen of poorer
hard pine meet how can that be
cockpit people have lived in this part
when it doesn't have of granite countertop
imagine that imagine cooking
anna house that doesn't have a granite countertop that lord of the whole guess
what
if blacks stainless steel appliances because you gotta have stainless steel
appliances today
it's the in thing to do
consumerism
because this couple might have the house at the upper end of their limits but
they can abide and they commit dot that perfect kitchen
to put in the granite countertop stainless steel appliances because
that's what you have to do if somebody comes over to your house christening
and they want to buy the kitchen they've got to see the granite countertop and
they perceive that stainless steel appliances
and know that you art it meant that state you have learned
you know what's important
and should they go to the bathroom they'd better find fuel vanities in
there because today a couple living in a home
getting ready in the morning by a single cent in the bathroom i mean how could
the do it
it just doesn't happen
unique deal
vanities
it's all about consumerism
answer bill bob goods that people have been shown and talked
but it starts earlier than that
think about are used to be what they are learning here is you've gone to school
grade twelve is coming to an end to your graduating
you have higher education
to look forward to it
four years in a university or college
four years that could end up costing a hundred thousand dollars
now in the united states that already
start questioned the validity of this because there are things have changed
but here's the thing you go for four years
right out of high school into university or college get your degree
you gradually with a hundred thousand dollars in debt
you have lost your freedom and independence you better have a job you
don't have a job fast
and start making your payments on that
while you burn your living expenses and maybe try to save money for a whole
more car or whatever else you might need
you know if now isolate but willing slave to society and consumerism
so let's take this is a step forward
in the united states not one of the things that they're discovering is that
graduates from university with their degrees
well the jobs or not there is the way they used to be it's difficult to get a
job
and when you get a job that might be entry level should not during the big
money
that you used to
middle income is being eroded
so it's not easy
and that's the same thing here in canada i mean
uh... even before this video at one point out to make up video board are
education system sunday night and drove around the block
or call it wrinkle on a to get videos for uh... using it and i was doing
research online aboard
how many students are in that top universities in north america
and the number is astounding to me anyone can do that google
but our twenty top thirty universities
and see what they're enrollment is and image staggering
staggering amount of kids who can be thrown out of university
that either their parents are paying for or that they have student loans for
to start off by new life
for me being in my mid-fifties i can remember vaguely back into the sixties
in that
hippie movement
and people at that time did have independence first of all you want
driven by the great consumer
guards you-know-who marketing agencies have told you that
you have to have everything just right and everything it to be perfect in in
this place
and many young people even dropped out of universities colleges
efollett there but
entry in their own passion even if it was just about
traveling around the states and and exploring things
they took time off
and i think that wouldn't be a bad thing to do today's take some time off any
njoy life that's what the party yolo was appalled
cindy had a house previously i i lived in the house previously
and that we now live in a small one-bedroom apartment because we can
look for something and we can't travel
that's what we're gonna do in the next couple of days and here's something else
were independent of all because were google youtube actions partners and earn
their living from that we don't have to pander to travel and tourism boards or
to marketing to burn
so when we travel with you talk about things we find
how we find it
i can talk about the fact that british columbia is beautiful great scenery but
you know of
if you travel across our border to washington state you gonna find equal
beauty
not any better but certainly equal it's not about being exceptional it's not
exceptional summed up
bridge columbia superior to washington state or to alberta because every
tourism board is advertising they need people to travel
but washington state the stunningly beautiful and isn't independent person
i can also tell you that if you go to washington state unified the prices a
lot cheaper than in canada
the simple fact withers food
gasoline accommodations alcohol
uh... any of those things are a lot cheaper in the united states in the air
in canada
but they are equal in their beauty
essendon i look forward not traveling down to the united states
exploring the beauty that the united states offers
yellowstone national park than this badlands national force and parks not
far away
uh...
going into uh... south dakota and maybe even stopping at mount rushmore
heading down to george i've never seen uh... how they grow up peanuts i know it
was allergic almost peanuts today but i've missed babygirl peanuts and know
what's up
route it's in the ground i'd like to see peanut fronts
i'm curious distorted we have
teaches is that this evidence
like peaches growing all the place
florida they're coming back along the gulf states ever storm of the beautiful
mountains and red rock nevada this grand canyon
new mexico coming into
california and then heading back up into canada
amazing experience but yes we do have the freedom
and independence to do it
because we are not slaves to consumerism
at least
i hope we're not
would like to have to be
thank you for watching
