Heather: Hey guys! This is Heather from healthyveganreciepes.net. This is the camping addition, because Phil
and I are campaigning tonight, and I just wanted to show you a really simple menu that
we made from stuff we got at the grocery store. This is actually something we do fairly often
when we are traveling is we just go to a grocery store, get some food, and make a meal out
of it, but when youÕre camping, you obviously donÕt have any access to like boiling water
or anything like that.
So really simple, weÕre having a little appetizer with some carrot sticks and some salsa, and
we donÕt worry about double-dipping. And then, for our dinner, we have some chickpeas
which are organic which is awesome, downside, they do have salt in the cane, so I was sure
to rinse them really, really well. I for cane opener with us on this trip, but every so
often, youÕre lucky enough to find one has a pull tab. Sometimes we also get things like
-- like last week we got a soup, a bean soup that was in a box that has a little pull tab
on a top.
So look around and see what you can find yourself, and then you can make yourself a meal. We
always travel with our plastic containers, because they come in so handy for making our
meals. And then the salsa, again, I just checked the ingredient. WeÕve got tomatoes, fresh
yellow chili, distilled vinegar, salt, onion and spice.
So that sounded pretty good to me, weÕve got it from Trader Joe's, and thatÕs going
to add some flavor to our meal. You can find all kinds of different sauces and soups like
I said in jars, just be sure to check the ingredients, because sometimes there is some
crap in there that you really donÕt want to be eating.
So I am just going to mix the chickpeas with a salsa, because that will help, if they sit
here for a little bit, they will start at absorb flavors of our yummy salsa. And then
when you buy prepared foods, my best advice is to just add a bunch of fresh veggies to
it, so weÕve got some cucumber, some green pepper, and some sprouts my favorite. And
we got a clover and arugula mix, because we are always making clover in our salsa at home.
ItÕs always a good idea to get some different kinds. And then this is also something that
I always travel with, my super tiny cutting board, and this knife is awesome. Right Phil?
Phil: Amazing
Heather: ItÕs ridiculous how amazing it is at cutting up vegetable, itÕs just like so
easy. Ooh, getting fancy with the camera work today. I donÕt usually have a cameraman filming
for me so this is like you are getting a pro version today. We have got a beautiful campsite,
itÕs right on the river and we were just hanging out down by a little beach, reading
a book, a very, what would you call it, comfortable camping.
Phil and I have done some camping where we had to hike in, and there it took a little
bit more prep work on food. So what I will do is stir up the veggies so that they all
get into some nice salsa as well, and then I am just going to top it off with some sprouts.
It may not be the most attractive or fancy meal, you know it tastes really good and itÕs
super healthy, simply fantastic. There is our beautiful sprouts, arugula and clover
mixed, and here we go. Yummy!
Okay, so thatÕs the dinner and then I did also want to mention that we have got a little
desert for ourselves today. We got a Larabar, which again just look at the ingredients to
find yourself a fairly good treat. So this one, ingredients: dates, hazelnuts, almonds,
unsweetened chocolate, coco powder. ItÕs organic, itÕs Fair Trade certified, and it
says right on the side, gluten good free, dairy free, soy free, non-GMO, vegan, and
kosher, just in case you are worried about that.
Phil: No sugar, no oil, no salt?
Heather: No, just nice whole ingredients with little bit of coco to make it yummy. So thatÕs
our treat tonight, and yeah weÕre just going to enjoy a nice night at campaigning. I forgot
to mention one thing when I rinsed the chickpeas, because I am camping, I went to the washroom
to wash them or the bathroom as you say in the U.S, because if you rinse them onto ground
you might attract some animal and same thing with our ends of our veggie. I am going to
take those to the garbage and we have all of our spare food kept in our fridge.
So thatÕs some camping specific tips, obviously it doesnÕt matter if youÕre at home. Oh
yes, the recipe will be posted at healthyveganreciepes.net. So for those of you who want to make your
own yummy campaigning meal, you can go check it out there.
See yah!
