Hi everyone,
BJ Smith from The Busy Marketer Podcast coming to you from the studio with another edition
of Digital Marketing News for The Busy Marketer ... Hashtag TBMnews ... The latest information
on Digital Marketing that you need to know right now.
Google has just released a new extension to Adwords named "Callouts".
Callouts give you an additional line of text in your ads that appear just above the site
links. You can use this space to draw attention to sales, special events, anything that may
differentiate your organization from your competition like free shipping or 24/7 tech
support. You can even use them in conjunction with other ad formats.
There are two main benefits that I see from using Callouts:
1, you don't have to waste site links to show off benefits. In the past, I've used site
links to show off free shipping, which meant I would have to build a free shipping landing
page, or direct the link to the not-so-exciting shipping page. Now those site links are freed
up to promote categories, products or services.
The other benefit I see is the ability to switch out special promotions. I worked with
a company that constantly had promotions. Changing out promotions meant switching the
ads. I believe in constantly a/b testing and changing up the ads would wipe out our data.
Now you can change a Callout without losing data.
The down side, in my opinion, is the Callouts don't stand out. The ad has the large blue
hypertext headline and the blue site links that grab the attention of the user. The Callouts
are small black text in between that sort of blend in.
As always, make sure to test!
