Mr Khodorkovsky is imprisoned now for ten years. One has to imagine that. He is in the
prime of life; he will be 50 years old. I don't know anyone who believes that he is
only remotely responsible for or has done what he is accused of. And even Russian colleagues
know that Russia has no independent judiciary. That competitors and dissidents are immediately
marked as enemies there. That one tries to push them aside and that one uses the judiciary
in many cases. Therefore the voice for Khodorkovsky must be raised by many from civil society,
who as I can freely express themselves and must say to our Russian neighbors, they should
release him from prison. It would be a good sign of human dignity and a sign of a more
open regime as we have unfortunately experienced in Russia.
