This is a piece by Trevor Paglen.
Also photography.
A starry sky or...What is it exactly?
This is indeed a starry sky.
Trevor Paglen is a photographer,
as well as a geographer,
and 'astro-photographer', if you will.
For this series of photographs,
he photographed satellites, spy satellites,
even secret space shuttles, some of which of the American government,
but also of other governments,
photographed from a vast distance, of course,
so he used special astronomical lenses and camera equipment.
These are actually spy satellites,
and I thought it would be interesting to include this series in the exhibition
as it refers to architecture, in terms of infrastructure.
For example, the infrastructure of surveillance,
not only issues which we are confronted with on a daily basis, such as camera monitoring in the city
but also these kinds of objects which are way up in the sky
and the existence of which is officially unknown or even officially denied.
Then there's another series by him.
Yes.
Completely different. These are taken closer to Earth.
In this series, he used the same technique, so also with the astronomical telelenses.
These pictures were taken from a very large distance, which is why they can be very blurry at times.
This series depicts hidden military bases, secret test sites of the CIA, training camps...
Again, sites which are not officially on the map, he chose to record.
