Whilst CommentPiG Pro works extremely well running on autopilot some advanced users may
wish to leverage the powerful Local Database options.
It takes a bit of extra preparation time but it can produce very beneficial results.
In order to fully use the Local Database options you will need to be able to harvest your own
comments and usernames.
We’ve produced a range of desktop applications that can help you harvest suitable comments
for your blogs based on the keywords you specify. You can then use a bulk search & replace tool
or text manipulation tool to prepare them for your blog.
I highly recommend Text Pipe Pro from Datamystic, it is the fastest text manipulation tool I
have ever used bar none, take a look here for more information.
The Comments CSV is simply a multiline list with the fields separated by commas.
The easiest way to create a suitable CSV file is with a spreadsheet application such as
Excel
The layout of your spreadsheet is very important.
The basic spreadsheet should contain just the actual comments in a single column with
the header - comment.
If you are using a single column local comments DB it is very important to select random as
the target otherwise no comments will be posted.
Advanced users may want to include a second column containing a keyword or tag for each
comment.
CommentPiG will use this tag to target the comments to posts that have the same tag (or
custom field).
Here’s an example of a two column comment CSV in Excel.
As you can see I’ve got all my comments listed in the first column and in this example
I’ve used number codes that reference custom fields in my blog posts in the second column.
You could use anything in the second column; it simply allows CommentPiG Pro to search
against the comment DB using either the post tag/title/custom field that you specified
earlier in the General Settings.
To upload a new local comment database just browse to the CSV file on your computer.
Click the Append comments button to add the comments to your database.
If you already have comments in your local DB the new upload will be appended to the
existing list.
If you want the new comments to replace the existing comments simply click Clear DB before
uploading the new comments.
The Total/Used count shows the number of comments already in your Local DB and the number of
comments that have already been used.
This is only relevant if 'don't reuse local comment' was checked in the source settings.
You can view your uploaded comments by clicking on the view link and you can reset the used
count by clicking the reset link.
You can also create a CSV to import your names into CommentPiG.
The names spreadsheet is simply a single column containing all the names you wish to import,
one per line. There are no additional columns allowed.
Uploading your own names list ensures that all your usernames are unique this also allows
advanced users to upload themed keywords to be used as the comment usernames.
To upload a new local name database just Browse to the CSV file on your computer.
Click the append button, if you already have names in your local database the new upload
will be appended to the existing list.
If you want the new names to replace the existing comments simply click Clear DB before uploading
the new names.
Total count shows the number of names currently in your Local DB and you can view them individually
by clicking on the view link.
