A duo project. Piano and voice, accordion and voice.
– I tweeted you. – I came up with the Luiz Gonzaga idea.
– I wrote "let's do a voice and accordion gig".
Then you tweeted me "Mateus, next year" – that would be now,
"is Luiz Gonzaga's centenary."
Then I replied "So let's record an album".
And there it was.
At the B part we go to the chorus "Eu ontem sonhei com Rosa, meu amor"
– Just one chorus. – "Vivo sempre a te esperar"
I personally didn't know the work of Luiz Gonzaga as I got to know now.
I knew the hits, I had already played most of them.
But I was sure we would find a lot of material.
A lot of good material, interesting songs.
And it would be hard to let some of them go, as it was.
Joining songs that are familiar to the public,
which brought us some extra work coming up with different arrangements, different ways to sing them.
Will this ending always be ahead like this?
After setting the repertoire, I started working on the arrangements. Three aspects called to my attention.
Which were: the lyricism of some melodies, very beautiful;
The comedy. Some songs are very funny. A few of them even tell stories...
And the suffering of the countryman as he portrays it, along with religion.
– This is totally different from what people would expect, I believe. This song.
– It's very different. – From the general sound of Luiz Gonzaga too.
– The way you conceived it. – It used to be like this.
The original. It's very upbeat.
We did some hits, but we also looked for less known songs.
Either written by Luiz Gonzaga himself, or tunes that he recorded.
Geraldo Vandré. Many other composers of songs that Luiz Gonzaga played.
– Songs that he came in touch with, right? – Yeah, he came in touch with them.
I believe that when someone listens to the album, they can feel this... The breathing...
It was recorded as a live concert, in two days.
I believe it allows that.
– Here's the thing: if we don't have four songs recorded, nobody's having lunch.
We'll have lunch when we finish four songs.
– Look at these guys, that's abuse.
– Yeah, oops. That's it.. – Sounded like a glissando.
– That's the one, in my opinion.
