>>Student: Hi, my name is Blaire Xiong. I am in the Administrative Professional Program.
My question for you Dr. Rafn is what is a typical work day for you at the office here
on campus?
>>Dr. Rafn: Actually there is no typical day for a college president. That's one of the
exciting things about this job. You never really know what's going to happen during
the day. As a leader of this institution my responsibility really is to look out into
the future; what do we need to be doing over the next year, two years, three years. So
that we can make sure that we're putting the right programming together to meet the needs
of the students and the businesses. I also spend a lot of time collaborating with other
organizations. Just today, for instance, I met with a couple school systems. And yesterday,
I was out in another community meeting with folks. Really looking and talking with employers
in ways that how could we work together to do a better job as a community because I really
think technical education is all about the community. So in some senses, you know, it
can be seen as a lot of meetings. But on the other hand, I think it's more a lot about
ideas and creating and collaborating and building new things and I just love doing that. And
as the president, I think I'm really privileged and honored to be able to do that on behalf
of you as a student and the communities.
