Forms can be customized in the Form Edit Field. You can use HTML like the Paragraph tag or
the Break tag.
You can also use Form-tags which are small strings of type enclosed in brackets. These
tags have a specific format.
The Type (like text, email, URL, quiz or textarea for instance) if an asterisk is used at the
end of the Type then this indicates it is a required field and cannot be left blank)
this is followed by a space and then the Name which is used as the identifier. This can
be a single word or several words with a dash between the words. Then the options follow
the Name. Options indicate the behaviors and appearance of the field and are optional.
The options can vary depending on the Form-tag Type. And then the Value which is typically
used to specify default values for the Form-tag. And finally the closing bracket..
All of the Form-tags can be easily generated by using the Generate Tag screen. This screen
is a workspace and it does not save the information. Once you click off the screen or click to
another tag then the information you entered will be gone. So make sure you copy and paste
the tag in the Form edit area before you exit.
Clicking on the Generate tag activates a drop-down that has several tag choices. The selections
for each tag will depend on the individual tags.
Some tags can be marked as required while others cannot.
Each tag must have a name since that is a required identifier. Enter the identifier
name. Use numbers, letters and the hyphen (no spaces).
The ID and the Class are optional and are used to target the tag for CSS styling like
color, font, and size for instance.
The Size field is the overall length of the field. Enter 40 and the filed will be 40 characters
long. Not to be confused with the maxlenght which is how many characters are allowed in
this field. Enter 10 and only 10 characters can be entered in the field. These fields
also have a convenient spinner to fine tune the numbers.
The Akismet check box is used when integrating Contact Form 7 with the WordPress spam filter.
And the Default Value field refers to the placeholder option. Information entered in
this box will appear in the field as a placeholder and can be used for instructions. If the Use
This Text As Placeholder box is checked then this text will appear inside the form field
when the form is generated.
For instance if I enter Enter Project Details as the default value and check the Placeholder
box then this text is placed in the code as a placeholder and will appear inside the form
field when the form is generated.
The last two boxes are for copying and pasting the code. The first box is used in the Form
edit box and last box is used in the Mail section box below.
Remember to copy and paste the code to the edit box before exiting and make sure you
click the Save button to save any changes to the form.
Now when you copy the new shortcode to the page you have a new area added.
