Hello my name is Andrew Campbell, welcome to AC Silver.
This fine and impressive antique George II English sterling silver tankard has been made
by the renowned and collectable Newcastle silversmith Thomas Makepeace I.
It has a plain tapering cylindrical form onto a spreading base.
The body is encircled with a plain girdle, to the front of the tankard are contemporary
bright cut engraved initials between a barley stalk and a wheat ear.
The tankard is fitted with the original domed hallmarked hinged cover with an impressive
shaped pierced decorated thumbpiece.
The impressive scrolling handle has further contemporary engraved initials, it is also
struck with part hallmarks as to be expected.
Full hallmarks are struck to the surface of the body, further part hallmarks to the hinged
cover, all are clear and keeping with its age.
The patination of the tankard is excellent.
Certainly the highlighted features of this exceptional and collectable tankard make it
one that could be sold with my highest recommendations.
