( music playing) Hi
I'm Cinnamon Cooney and I'm you art sherpa
I want to take you through a Really quick Sunset Sky
This is a 2 Hoot difficulty but were gonna do it really fast
get it up This is a fast tutorial because I know a lot of you out there
about Sky's
its kinda why you maybe even wanted to paint but their a little intimidating
I will let you in on a secret (whispers) Sky's are easy!
they really are they're just almost an abstract there just color
and light and dark relating to each other in a way that says it a cloud or a sky
that didn't sound particularly easy but it is
I'm Gonna show you how to do this from the brushes up I'm gonna paint a thing your
going to paint a thing
I'm going to paint a thing your going to paint a thing and then together were
going to end up with the same painting
So lets paint this Fabulous sunset sky right here
Just the sky part were not going to do the rest of it right here
and that should give you a good idea how that's actually done
I'm going to put my pallet out
I'm gonna put some crimson out some napthol crimson
put some
phthalo blue
it's exciting on the other side here because sometimes phthalo
doixazine purple can look a little bit similar
There's the doixazine purple cause I know I'm going to need lot today
some
little bit of Raw sienna( should have said Burnt Sienna) Sienna
Cad yellow
Little more Cad Yellow I think
A little cad red medium and then white
Thats a fun pallet right?
Believe it or not these two reds
actually really important to have both I going to put out a lot of white
got my water
got my brush and I've got my paper towels
okay I want to get this in really quickly
Do not want to take a lot of time doing it the first
upper part of this believe it or not it a little purple
a little bit of blue YOU CAN DO IT
mixing them together now You notice I do not just mix my paint plops together
right allright
gonna paint the first upper part of this canvas with this nice
mix of color
can take this
all right!
we're just working in the sky today
just the idea of this sky. The reason there's texture
on my canvas is sometimes because I paint
so much and I'm not gonna keep everything I paint I'll gesso over it
which is a really good tip for you being if your getting into painting
gesso is a great way to re-purpose canvass's
and get to use them again you can get it it's really inexpensive they've got it
all the art supply shops
including our favorite
Micheal's or Wallmart or Jerry's Artarama
Aaron's any of them will have it
Gesso and they even now have a student grade gesso
little less expensive
Rinse this out a little bit it a little harder to rinse out big brushes
because they carry so much water You need to have a paper towel handy
to keep that from getting overwhelming gonna take a little this brown
mix it with the blue Whipe it on my paper towel and just get m y white
Right under here I'm going to
finish my sky in that color
just keep adding white
just keep lightening it up. One trick while the paint
I'm gonna pull my big brush through it
pulling the collars and softening them together keep pulling it down
get that done (kid in background) there's my daughter
She's always got a lot to say hey Honey
(family noise)
You may or may not be able hear her do not worry
she's being supervised
so we got the sky in Im going to run my brush through
kinda pulll everything Level
The trick to this will be
to be moving along quickly enough to make sure you're paying way into wet
paint
when you paint wet into wet paint on Acrylic like you get a very similar
effect that you see in oil paintings so
if you let this dry out and you go back over with wet paint
then it's not do that soft blend that you may be looking for you might have to
start it back over again
going to rinse off my big brush
paper towel out the excessive water and my magic magic trick
The hairdryer
(Goofy Music Playing)
(Goofy Music Playing)
(Goofy Music Playing)
(Goofy Music Playing) Yum take a sip of my french press
ART POWER okay
I'm gonna grab
My Round I think this is like a sixteen numbers have been
rubbed off it but my large round old beat up brush
in its gonna help me get in the rest in my background sky
I'm gonna mix a little my blue in my brown together and a little
of the purple to it grab a little bit of the white and I'm gonna come
here
and directionality right here is going to matter
I will be going from a left to
right upward diagonal directionality with this
I will softly put in
a little of this back cloud bank
put a little of this in get a little of that color in there
I got a very soft brush pressure
and that soft brush pressure really allows me
to get in here...going to mix a little brown and purple
get a little white to thatt come right back in here
mix a little brown purple
this type of sky is really
about these kinds inside a little subtle little changes that are going to go on
All I've got that
grab some just purple
interestingly enough and at a little red to it
I am going to come underneath here
I am going to start layering that in
Just layering that in
This sort of is coming in... this is a band.... grab some more that some purple
and the red coming in
Bands just get the band's
have fun
keeping this brush directionality going in come on here
now I'm leaving this upper part
absolutely the deep purple
bringing this up here this cloud bank is going see that coming across here
how is that looking to you guys back there ?
I'm going to build this in
I won't use that much water on this painting between
segments because I wanna fairly
dried out brush and I want a little bit of the pigment that I've got going
on this brush
could come up here
I will fill that in its starting to make a real difference there
I have a little of this and a little of that hotter in the red and I'm coming back in
through here
a little hotter on the red a little bit harder on the red right there
pulling in a little more red too that purple
she grab a little more red this is good for you do you know if you've done
a few little skies and your ready to give yourself
a little bit of a challenge right?
and I am going to wipe this off on a paper towel grab some just purple
and I'm gonna come right through the middle here with this
just intense purple
come right up here with some more of it
ust intense purple start building up those clouds Build them up build them up
Ok see this here
it's very dark but it's starting to get some value differences
get some deep dark... we are all in 8s 9s and 10s or talking about that we're
talking about the grayscale
10 shades of grey not fifty just 10
really only artists wee 50 because you have to take the Pantone test to see all of them
I can see them
most people see about 20 But we use a gray-scale that's 10
so if someone says to you you're in an art class
that we're in
an 8 and nine then you know that you're in a very
dark shade closer to black if they were using one or two you know that
you're closer to the lightest value or shade
yeah right now what's fun here is really using some of Pantone's Color of the Year
Radiant Orchid
Every year the pantone group and this committee get together and decide the
colors for
really basically the whole world if you're running while the Sudden you see
this radiant orchid everywhere
Thats where it came from Hemlock and Freesia are also popular colors this year that they've
decided
I think that's kinda funny entertaining now I'm gonna take a little bit of this
white and come over to this mixture
add little white into it
I've got this more
red and I'm gonna come up along here dust some others here some places I
want it a little darker now
there I got it
pull this in
Just add some of this fabulous color up in here
It is sort of fun to do lets pull some of it down here
oh yeah it's lovely keep in that directionality that left right
upward directionality we can do it don't you worry about it
were going to be done with this actually quicker than you think which is interesting
how quickly these actually go
now I'm gonna mix from
much pinker coming with a little lighter color here
little more purple
Coming in and dust in some of this
little shorter brush strokes these up and downy brush strokes
come in just putting in a little bit of a
highlight here
here we go with that yeah
little here
all right here we go got some nice stuff happening there
wipe off on the paper towel wipe out the extra paint this one I might
actually kinda give it a rinse my paper towel
excess water
coming a little more into my crimson
crimson is a very different color
and some white to that we are going to come in here and add some color
a little but of this here
believe it or not you can come in and get
get some of this know I need a very interesting effect with this
fun fun fun
I will let that brush rest a minute and I going to grab
my inexpensive 1/2 inch brush because it just give me a little bit more control
and I like this one is it a little bit fluffy
you can find a brush it's been a little bit damaged so it a little bit fluffy
it's very helpful in doing this sort of cloud effect
I am going to come in here and mix some more
the orange color that I wanna see my sky how great with purple little bit and
that's an interesting thing ! you don't really think that that's what you're doing but
that is what you're doing
I will put a little dust of this here and there
a little dust following a long
of this orange really come up here
then you will have developed the shapes these are your cloud shapes
as you go
I want to follow those
along this one here
just a little run of this
come in here and I have added a little white and a little more red
orange follow along
pretty easy to do
just dust that in there
make sure you get enough this up
just keeping my pressure
very very light I'm just keeping it super light
okay for now when I like to do is start adding
adding some other drama and light
in dynamic energy to my sky and how i'm going to do that is get into my reds
oranges and
my brightintense colors the first thing I'll do as I'm gonna get
add just a titch of yellow
just a titch to my crimson
were going to do all kinds of shades were going come along here
put just a little line in
create this highlight
along this bank here
keep this little highlight along the cloud bank here
taking up the canvas
take this up
see you see that you see that?
come along the top lighten this up a little bit I'm turning up the
dimension
mumbling
need to
little bit up here doing some drama
some drama
drama, drama
their putting in some drama
fun to put in some drama
drama drama drama drama drama drama
yeah mid-season drama along here
drama going right there
peeking out nice peeking out drama
wonderful peeking out drama
wonderful peeking out drama
Are you seeing that there? Are you feeling the energy to that area?
exciting
we can really just enjoy this process
instead of seeing as a challenge to overcome see it as an opportunity discover how amazing YOU ARE!
you can do things that are challenging
they the tools that you need to accomplish your goal or just there
all you have to do is make the effort to access them every time you go to paint a sky
its gonna get easier that's just what going to happen no matter where you're at
today
tomorrow will be better and the next day will you better in the next day will be
better
never-ending growth in art it just never stops
that's what makes it such an exciting thing to have in your life
you know
come along here and create a nice strong highlight
here oh yea I like that
This nice string highlight , getting these dramatic skies
is a lot of fun maybe add some dramatic sky ray here in the middle
drama drama drama to to the sky sky sky
I am just finding these random little spots I am just looking for places
for the Red
Sort of running into sort of scrumble that into there
highly technical fine art term that's actually real
amuses me to no end
let me get a little bit of yellow its got some red
a little but in there
I am going to grab some white
really want it to be very quite light
here we go
I am going to come a long and create some high lighting
in some of this space hopping along here creates some more highlighting
little highlighting coming up
I think
even more white in that
here we go
put a little on here
directionality matter pay attention to directionality
that left to right: going up
nice dramatic sky
maybe a little more pink in this color
adding a little more pink as my pallet wanders away on me
actually happens to people certainly happens to me
now along here
I'm going to run this brighter color
along the edge of my cloud line
just sort of fun for me to do were just sort of working on this detailed
this sky here
not worrying about this whole space fan pro mountain or anything
this is just a little tutorial I picked up some blue when it happens to you
don't stress on it rinse it out wipe it off
get your color again and just get going
just nothing that's really gonna
throw you off your game here as long as you just
stay calm and know that if you paint
all that's going to happen is a painting that's all that's going to happen
all I am going to get out of this is a painting
grow highlight there make the sky very Dramatic
little bit here
ok!
now what we can do. IF every really like this I'm going to throw a mountain range here so I
can show you the light effect between the mountain range and the sky
sort of a fun thing to do
I make this line along my cloud bank
top of my little mountain range can come here and just go down
come down and don't want to dip that much
have that little bit a blue sky
grab a slightly bigger brush
just kinda get that in now mix-up
purple and blue again just paint it in
for the purposes it knowing where it is nice to know where it is
horizon line is now you will hear artist talking about this all the time the horizon line
basically all their talking about is where the sky meets the land
thats really were referencing is where objects disappear
from our eye line where they merge
where they converge it's just about
were the objects the ground meet the objects in the air
even if it's inside a building it's still about
ceiling and the floor. So we will just
line this little mountain line here
little sucker in real fast
get some more purple
real fun to paint the little Sun sets in
you know this kind of sky can feel intimidating but its really
just a joy
lot of things like that are in life you know
They cab be intimidating but you can't you can let yourself get intimidated in
the studio
you get a really just open your breath up
open your heart up have a little bit of faith
faith in yourself faith in well-being
is just not enough faith in well-being there's not enough faith in things are fine
things are okay and that doesn't mean they're always easy
things are not always easy
you now
things aren't things are not always perfect
you know but when you have art when you're creative
being creative is a lot like being rich
because anything you can imagine
can be yours when you talk to somebody who truly artistic or truly crafty
and they believe in that side of themselves if they wanna
something there would be normally out other their reach cost wise they just go
figure out how to make it
in anyways anymore you can go online
You Tube or the internet or Pinterest
and find out how to make something...right?
you wanted a gorgeous big sunset sky know it's lovely to have the money
to go buy one from an artist that you love and enjoy and I certainly want you
guys to collect art work I do
but it's even more lovely to know that it's in you to do it
its in you have it
and if you are blessed enough to be able to go places like Hawaii
how amazing is it going to be to just
take your little pallet out to the beach
take your little pallet out
right out to the beach and
paint how awesome is that gonna be?
be like I can Handle that sky
I know that's in me I have faith in myself
I've got my tools
sure my cabana boy is looking at me like I've lost my mind
concerned about paint mess but I am going paint anyways take your paints on a cruise
I've done it
you can paint right there on the cruise even do you
this there in a group you can do this in your backyard
maybe that's the vacation is having a quite minute in your backyard
You can paint right there you can build up this Language
you've got the whole world look our nice little mountain set we just through in there
that was nothing it's just in there
with no big deal WE just trough in Mountains we don't get intimidated
Throw them in
alright so I've got my little half inch brush here I am gong to rinse it out
Rinse rinse rinse get my pallet placed
I will mix my brown and blue and mix it quite dark at first
really more to the brown even then the blue it's almost greyed out
gonna come along here and I'm going to paint in
still keeping that Directionaliy
still keeping it
still keeping track of it
there
I need it much more in the brown
even a little browning streak to it
I am going to come right here and feather this
slightly lighter color but I am going to let
a little bit of that dark color here peak out
it Just doesn't need to
be intense all the time
put this may be up into this a little bit more
My little mountain range
so a bit more from the comeback with some highlighting a minute
Now I will really get in my white
Right into that white
Right into that
I will blend it
so how I'm getting this crisp edge you see right here I am painting on the edge
Bottom edge of my brush
letting the short bristles lead
and long bristles follow
Thats how I get that crisp edge if ahhh
you're good at eyeliner have ever done
eyeliner you'll find it that a that helps a lot
anymore that's boys and girls sometimes y there good at eyeliner
so that might be a everybody tip
these days which is OK
completely okay this is art
those in funny Hats should not judge at all
(laughing)
pulling this light color into here because we want to lighten this sky up
is light and we want to lighten it
We have it lightened up
Right up into here
blend it out
lighten it up All right
and we really have a very light here's were are going to rinse this out and we're almost done
with it
gonna put and pick up a little pops pops for fun
so one thing I might want I might want a little bit a
of my purples along my mountain line
if a little bit yellow gets near purple grays it out a little bit
pushes it back in makes it seem a little less
along here to create an atmospheric
little affect along this mountain line pushing in this little bit of color
fun to do
push it up in here
find a yummy bit of color and it should go nice in there
should put some right there that yummy color
rinse my brush out and get right into
little yellow here
I am coming right along mountainside here
pull that right up
there you go
I want you to feel like you can do this your not alone in doing it
You know where I am at we got Etsy we got facebook
I am reachable I am on Pintrest
you can run me down you can ask me questions in
you can be painting your own stuff I just want you guys to paint
because I want you guys to think about what you might do artistically
have going on in your lives
I am going to add a little highlight that will highlight
Strengthen up the highlight coming down
right got nice little high light coming along there
Little bit more yellow...fun stuff,,, letting a little pink
peek through there we go
get a little more yellow
thats fun to do
okay so the last thing I want to do is create some zing and How I will get that Zing
I'm going to
to a little of my Crimson (napthol)
along here in couple places pull into the white
wipe it down just a little bit whenever you get too much
paint you can always
wipe it off now
just say that's just too much
and just wipe it off
put some here we are putting some of this bright
intensity WERE SATURATING
a color so that its
dramatic now it's okay to be dramatic
its alright
Not every kind of drama it about reality tv negativity sometimes drama is about
about being
yourself turned up maybe that's
a happy thing maybe that's just laughing more
you know that's just remembering to call friends more often
we should all call our friends more often
hi friends
You know get real honest on your canvas
I really like this red
thats just honest thats a type of honesty
were going to pull a couple reds here to
were going to pull some cad red as well
I am going to wipe this off and get the cad red over here
I'm going to put this a couple places too
when you use these pure paint pigments
it's very dramatic
very dramatic so go slowly
just think about it a little bit
hmm
this is all just about sky
look at it
one step back and then come in and look at it
how's that working out
how is that working out
sometimes pull in members the family
find out what the kids think they will tell you
they will tell you
right about now you're right brain has a lot to say about all this
good idea to listen to it and get back into the Crimson again
some crimson in there now where I feel like I need it
having some fun
fun
grab some cad and go I need some cad right there
(kid noise)for my monkeys are being monkeys
that's a pretty dramatic sky
that we've got going on you know any place you need to soften it up
I see couple places it could be softened grab some just
greyed out purple get a little bit of purple thats been greyed with the yellow
yellow
grey with a little yellow
just soften it just go " Soften up man"
lighten up don't be so serious
be so intense
lighten up
I'm pretty happy with that
The sun is setting on this sky
it's an easy sky It a sky you can do
it's a sky you can do it's a sky we can all do
This is really do-able. I hope they you decide to be brave this week and try
something new
I hope that your remember to say kind things to yourself and others
I wanna see you getting creative I wanna see what you're doing
PLEASE share with me I want you to join me at the easel real soon
I'll keep posting content you keep painting
see ya soon
