The county of San Bernardino is located in Southern California, inland from Los
Angeles and Orange counties with a consumer population of two million.
In this segment Kelly Reenders Economic Development Agency administrator for the
county
speaks to the opportunities for retail expansion and the market today
We're seen a switch from recovery mode to growth.
We are seeing industrial
which had remained very solid through the recession. It is on fire
and now retail and rooftop are
are coming back to the county we're seen housing starts
and new shopping centers under construction. We've seen the past couple
years
developers reinvesting in their properties a good example a that is
May Switch
put Macy's into the mall in Victor Valley and his
he put additional tenants and in reconfigure that mall
and I think that was rather unexpected
for that marketplace in the last few years. Simon has a large property in Ontario
Mills...
and we have been so excited to see what they have done with that property... they
keep reinvesting
and bringing in new tenants, exciting tenants in particular
high-end brand tenants that are really adding value to that center. Neiman Marcus Last
Call, Michael Kors
we're excited to see who they bring next. One of the
major trends happening in the County of San Bernardino
is e-commerce. Because our industrial market is so strong
and we're in this manner a for 24 million
people within three hours driving distance it's become a great location
from which major e-commerce retailers can reach their customers.
We have Amazon.com we have a Potluck
Kohls says all a very e-commerce a
Target, Staples, Home Depot
we have become a real center for for e-commerce
in the county and really as retailers,
changing and going in different directions, with how the consumer
shopping, it's an exciting time pressing.
We're also seen a lot of entrepreneurial spirit
there are and almost a dozen craft breweries that have popped up around the
county...
so it's been exciting to see from one end of the perspective
the large retailers like Target and Walmart and then entrepreneurial spirit
to sortive the unworthy, untrendy craft breweries
that that are also adding to it
to the quality of life there. We can support retailers through an
a number of different programs we have we can staff,
we can help retailers staff, we can train employees,
we offer workforce development incentives that allow employers to
take advantage our knowledge of the workers are in our market who's
available to
to be hired and then make sure they have the skills and the town to that company
needs to be successful. Retail TV is brought to you
