hello everybody it is David Claussen with
english-quickly.com
and today we're gonna learn a little bit about the Olympics in Sochi there are 88
countries
participating in the Olympics and just so you know
we call this a flag
or there are many flags here with an S
and there are 2800
athletes participating
in the Olympics and Sochi was awarded or
given the Olympics in 2007
and you can see the fans or the people there very happy about it
and Sochi is in the southern
part of Russia near the black sea
here you have the country of Georgia
Azerbaijan and the Ukraine
and you get some pictures here of Sochi and the Olympic
complex
and it's cool they have some nice beaches there and the ski area
where the Olympics will take place is about 40
kilometres away
the winter
Olympic activities will take place in a place called Krasnaya Polyana
and like I said, it's located about 40 kilometres away from the black sea coast
many people call that area in Sochi the Russian
Riviera because of the great beaches and the beautiful swimming
that you can do there
Riviera is an Italian name which means coastline and the coastline is where
the land
meets the ocean it's better if I show you this would be the coastline right here or coast
line this is the coastline here as well
and here are some more images or pictures from
where the athletes types of places they will be skiing and all the different events
and after the 2014 winter Olympics there'll be the Paralympic games
starting on March 7 to the 18th
and those are for athletes with a range of physical and intellectual
disabilities
and in English we would say you know people in a wheelchair or maybe missing a limb
would have a disability
so you might wanna check that out in march
so that's our lesson for today the 2014
winter Olympics
