I might go up to the room to make a coffee. Do you want one?
Yeah I think I’m gonna need one to get through the next thousand words.
Hey guys
what's going on?
What the hell are you wearing?
Oh what? My new hat?
Yeah, it’s Ben’s.
Thought I’d go a bit festival chic for the summer.
Did you know that Ben’s going to all the major festivals this year?
Who’s Ben?
He’s the new guy that transferred onto his course this semester.
He’s totally obsessed with him.
How many hairs do you think there are on the human head?
Don’t know, don’t care!
Oh go on!
Guess.
Errr…twenty five thousand?
Wrong!
It’s between eighty five
and…one hundred and fifty thousand.
Ben told me.
You know just got all these facts stored up in his head.
The stuff he comes out with at the pub just bends your mind!
Sounds thrilling.
Yeah! He's great!
Anyway we were just gonna go up to the room and make a coffee.
Oh my god! You are not still doing that assessment?
Yeah, got a thousand words to go.
Already done mine.
I thought you were having trouble with that last assignment?
Ah… now I was but…
…Ben wanted to go out the other night and I well..you know…
…accidentally copied a few paragraphs from his.
We’ve got different tutors anyway and I did most of it myself.
That’s wrong!
Besides, Ben thinks we’re too clever for uni anyway, he just dictates the class from his
chair. He knows more than the tutor..
You can’t just copy someone else’s work!
Oh come on guys! Live for the moment!
We’re beyond assignments.
We’ve just got to pass that’s all. Besides I’m not going to let something like that
get in the way of my summer.
STOP!!! Hold on just a minute.
Weather you’re copying the work of your silly friend or a well respected researcher or author in your field
It’s still a form of plagiarism and it’s wrong!
You need to include in your work
what others have said and found out but you have to clearly and explicitly state
where the information has come from
and give them their credit
so that others reading it can find out the original source.
This boy needs to get his own identity
otherwise he’ll be in serious trouble
and will find his summer
not going quite the way he planned.
