and and we are here today taking a look at the newly remodeled Donald W. Reynolds
school of journalism and center for advanced media studies
thanks to generous donations by that Donald W. Reynolds foundation the Scripts family
the John Ben Snow memorial trust, The University of Nevada, Reno foundation and
many other generous benefactors
students faculty and staff alike at The University of Nevada, Reno are
experiencing an enhanced learning environment Ivet Contreras from our
our RSJ news team has been checking out the feel the place trying out the furniture
and seeing why this is a great building to work and hang out in. Ivet what do you
have for us
Hi Dallas. As you can see the school of journalism is so much more than bricks
and mortar
to those who have declared journalism as their future
the journalism family, students, professors, mentors, future colleagues and
alumni are thrilled with his newly renovated space
the building has always had a special place in their hearts and now it's more
inviting and alluring than ever
with smaller and lighter furniture students easily configure space to meet
their needs varying with the projects at hand
group effort are more streamlined with friendly large monitor plug-ins
disbursed throughout the building to enable collaboration they courage teamwork and
facilitate group projects
lounging areas offer themselves as a relaxing reprieve between classes or a
cozy area to bounce ideas off one another
the renovated facility truly encourages students to be around, to stay around and
to enjoy the unique learning culture that at the Donald W. Reynolds school
of journalism.

Beau Smith has details on changes in the labs and classrooms where teachers and

not only has the renovation made the Donald W. Reynolds school of journalism
and center for advanced media studies more inviting socially, it has also made
vast improvements on learning space
every classroom such as the one seen here has been equipped with new
projector systems, screens and teaching stations
in some rooms floor to ceiling whiteboards provide brainstorming and
creative space and
space for fun with markers
the new multimedia newsroom is another exciting addition for all students
faculty and staff
additional studio capacity means that not only tv news students but all
students including those in strategic communications get to practice speaking
and presentation skills in front of the camera
the state of the art area set up with studio lighting and anchor desks edit
bays and workstations that are directly connected so that students will be able
to work live together while sharing files in different parts of the building
students will produce news for print, online and broadcast from this room
because that is journalism today
students must be prepared to work across media now
the lines of our discipline or blurred and this renovation accommodates and
reflects that back to you at the Donald W. Reynolds school of journalism and
center for advanced media studies rededication

One of the most impressive aspects of this model is easy to overlook as it
lies in the walls and the ceilings
you see all the new high-tech learning equipment and technology require vast amounts
of cabling hundreds of thousands of feet of different types of cable to be more
accurate. Each of you would be entangled in a techno spiderweb of cable if it
weren't for the intricate system of cable neatly aligned and installed throughout
the building. It carries data, audio and video to screens, computers and projectors
in the classrooms, labs and public areas. A digital storage distribution center
is a hub which handles that information traffic
