Hi, my name is Laurie Schulz. I'm an instructor here at NTC in the Mechanical Design area.
I’ve been asked several times how I got into an engineering field of study and I think
I have to say that it was mainly because in the past I had always liked sciences and math
and I found myself a single parent when I was in my early 20s.And I came to NTC and
I met with one of the counselors here and he suggested that with my background in maths
and sciences that I try Mechanical Design. And I thought about it and decided that men
are able to take care of their families with a career in this field and so that was what
I was going to do and here I am probably some 20 years later. And I’m back teaching at
the same place where I started. I started my career, my educational career at NTC and
then went on to get a bachelor’s degree and it was really nice because my credits
from NTC did transfer into the school so that I could get my bachelor's degree and not retake
all of those classes. And today I have a master's degree and that's what allows me to be teaching
in the Mechanical Design field.
