I have been collecting scale vehicles and building scratch built dioramas or creating
various scenes for over 30 years and now it’s time to teach others how to do it. I could
never find the right building or scenery or the quality product for what I had in mind
so I had to learn how to make everything myself and to my standards. I guess that is why people
rant and rave over my dioramas because they are a step or two above the competition; I
have had many requests to display them at various shows and competitions. I am constantly
asked how I make them and if I would sell them, so I decided to create a Blog to help
people create their own dioramas. You can check it out over at HowToMakeADiorama.com.
The Blog is about a build of a Vintage Style Building I call it an Old Storage Building
with different techniques to help build a building for your diorama. This is a great
place to start if you want to create a quality diorama the buildings are one of the most
important. The Blog goes into making mock-ups, laying out the design, studded walls, painting
techniques, etc. and there are pictures along the way. It doesn’t matter if you are a
car, truck, motorcycle, airplane or train person the techniques and how to build dioramas
are all the same, you just apply it to whatever you decide fits your needs.
The building created in the Blog actually measures 6” wide x 10” long with 4½”
side walls and a 6/12 roof pitch. To help with scale sizes I have made available something
called understanding scale replica vehicle sizes, along with a scale lumber chart and
a few different scale rulers to help you in your builds that you can print out and physically
use, all these items are all free.
So head on over to HowToMakeADiorama.com also available is a full length video and a pdf
of the complete build.
