If you're anything like me, you can't wait to see what's new in the latest version of
Photoshop. So here's a quick overview of the most exciting
new features in Photoshop CS5, before we get into the nitty-gritty of how
the new Photoshop features work. Puppet Warp, similar to the Puppet tool in
After Effects, is a new flexible way to bend and distort
objects in Photoshop. Use it to reposition limbs
or to shift an object out of the way. The new Content-Aware Fill option does a remarkable
job of filling in a selection with content that matches the
surrounding area. After you've removed an image element,
you can almost magically replace it with background detail,
using Content-Aware Fill and for smaller areas, the Content- Aware
option for the Spot Healing Brush tool uses the same technology.
A big focus of Photoshop CS5 is painting. New Bristle brush tips make natural looking,
organic strokes. And the new Mixer Brush blends colors realistically.
Give them a try to turn your photographs into paintings.
Capturing hair and other fine details at the edge of the selection
has always been a challenge. Selection features in Photoshop CS5 had been
enhanced to help you do just that. The new Smart Radius control will help you
select soft and hard edges at the same time, and the Decontaminate Colors control is a
one click solution to eliminating that sometimes stubborn color
halo around the selection edge. Merge to HDR Pro in Photoshop CS5,
for combining multiple photos that cover a wide tonal range,
is a significant improvement over HDR in Photoshop CS4.
Merge HDR Pro in CS5 includes enhanced controls, and if you want the popular look of a surreal
HDR image but you don't have multiple shots to work with,
the new HDR Toning adjustment can reproduce outlook on a single image.
The Lens Correction filter in Photoshop CS5 has been redesigned to include autocorrection
for your particular camera and lens combination. Adobe Camera Raw 6, which ships with Photoshop
CS5, offers improved noise reduction, while preserving
detail and color saturation. And a new Camera Raw Effects tab include a
creative control for adding grain to a photo and more advanced Post Crop Vignetting for
darkening and lightning photo corners, than there was in CS4.
Mini Bridge is a new panel in Photoshop CS5 that brings some of the file browsing capabilities
of the standalone program Adobe Bridge, right into Photoshop.
Whether you're a photographer, designer, or professional or casual user,
I guarantee you'll find something new in Photoshop CS5 that's exciting and useful for you.
