[Clara Lemlich Voiceover] I am a working girl.
One of those who are on strike against intolerable conditions.
What we are here to decide is whether we shall or shall not strike.
I offer a resolution that a general strike be declared now!

[Judith Rosenbaum] We were really inspired to create Living the Legacy by our
teachers who were always asking us for more
materials about social justice and while there is great material out there
about social justice, most of it focuses on the Jewish textual
tradition or on contemporary issues and there is almost nothing about the
historical tradition of Jewish social justice activism.
We felt that we could fill in that gap and tell the story in a really compelling way.
[Voiceover] Living the Legacy is a free, online curriculum from the Jewish
Women’s Archive. Use it with your students to explore the
story of Jewish justice through the experiences
of Jewish women and men in the Civil Rights and Labor Movements.
The 24 lesson plans in Living the Legacy feature art projects, role-playing,
and more than 200 historical primary sources and Jewish texts.
Students will find personal meaning and connection to Jewish history,
Jewish values, and to their own activism.
14 biographies of labor leaders introduce new, unsung Jewish heroes.
The materials are easy to adapt for different ages and settings,
and the site provides suggestions of different ways to group the lessons.
[Sam Wood] I like being a student as well as a teacher,
so I think that’s a particularly effective part of this curriculum
that it’s going to catch the teachers by surprise and keep them excited
and they pass that on.
[Voiceover] Inspire your students to find their link in the chain of history and start
living the legacy of Jewish activism today.
